I decided to race the sun last night, and though she beat me, somehow I still feel like I won.

The lack of visibility required me to bike down more by feel and trust than by eyesight. It reminded me of my rafting years and late night moonlit rafting, when I knew that I knew exactly what I was doing. No second guessing. There was no overthinking, just trust in myself, the beauty of nature at night, and being in my body. (And maybe not always the best decision making 😉)

Turns out biking down chill single track after the sun’s clocked out is quite the thrill and better than therapy. That iPhone long exposure isn’t helping paint the picture though, and I swear there was single track involved 😝

If ya don’t know, now ya know….

But for real. Sometimes you get to bushwhack and boot pack your way to sick couloirs or ski 26 miles over night for 20hrs - and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want for more of those adventures - but sometimes you just gotta get outside and go for the Fruitski! And if you’re lucky, maybe it’ll be a dual sport day with four dogs and fried chicken.

Skimo Barbie invited Boot Pack Barbie on the GT route from Crested Butte to Aspen. Through trials and tribulations, breaking trail and breaking for snacks, Skimo Barbie and Boot Pack Barbie had quite the adventure.
Jokes aside, thanks to @defaultadventure for bringing me along on this challenging escapade. We may not have made it to Aspen, but with the conditions we had I’m pretty dang proud of the 26 miles we put in to Ashcroft, and more than anything grateful for this friendship. Thanks for letting me be my goofy self and joining in on these silly videos over the years, for being an incredible listener with the best life advice, for being vulnerable, strong af, wise beyond your years with the biggest heart, and a general joy of a human. And hey, we didn’t even have to sleep on a rock this time… 😜

I’m grateful for any day in the backcountry, but yesterday just lit my heart right on fire. The conditions, the snacks, and especially the company were just 🤌🏻 I’ll forever be a “woo girl”, and now I’m adding Bootpack Barbie to the resume.

I also got to wrap up the trip with a bonus visit with Dad in Salida ❤️ he tried on my oakleys and says “no wonder your day was so great, you’ve been seeing through these rose colored lenses” 😝

Got to show some friends one of my favorite places this past weekend! And take my boat, “Fancy B*tch” down the Royal Gorge for the first time. She did great of course, and we S moved like we were 23 and hadn’t forgotten a thing.

So far at 56 ski days for the season, meeting a somewhat lofty goal I’d set at the beginning of winter. I didn’t check off any new big lines, or have any grand adventures, though I did have some amazing pow days at the resort both with friends and solo, and put a few more huts in the memory bank. This year was/is about reframing my relationship with “adventure”, and with my own fitness. About being kind to myself, committing to myself, and simply celebrating being outside. I’m still learning that it’s ok to play before my check list is complete, and perhaps even necessary in fact. So here’s to nabbing over 50 ski days (with more to come this summer) and on to setting some biking goals and committing to taking out the raft this season 🙌🏻 #getoutside #splitboard #powday by @journeysofajellybean
