Derby 🐎 weekend always brings such mixed emotion for me as a lover, owner and advocate of thoroughbred ex-race horses🐴 I am in awe of the incredible athletes who captivate us all at Churchill Downs. But I can’t help but think of all the racetrack “rejects” who never made it… and the sobering fact that an estimated 7,500 former racing thoroughbreds are sent to $laughter from our nation each year after failing to turn a profit on the track💔 The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is making strides to change that: I’m ever grateful to @tbaftercare adoption center @secondcallthoroughbreds where we adopted several of our former racing thoroughbreds, including my beloved Enduring Honor, for keeping horses like them out of the $laughter pipeline 🙏🏼 As you can see in my video, it has not always been easy to retrain them after the track.😙 But when these “throwaway” horses adopted for less than the cost of a saddle hang with those fancy six-figure imports in the show ring (despite being the “wrong” breed), it gives me a sense of pride no money can buy 🦄 To see these stigmatized “crazy” horses gently follow my 75-year-old mother or tenderly carry my 12-year-old neighbor it fills my heart with a joy hard to describe.❤️ We set out to help them heal, but instead we find them healing us. Helping us. Inspiring us. TV 📺 News love ❤️ & heartbreak 💔 this Valentines weekend. ❤️‍🩹 My former network @courttvnetwork is being sold, and that means major changes at its Atlanta based newsroom which I once considered my home away from home 🏡 I’m saddened to hear that so many of my wonderful former colleagues will be losing the jobs to which they have been so devoted. This weekend my racetrack “reject” rescues🐴 once again carried me to top placings against high-dollar well-bred imported horses, against the odds despite being the “wrong” breed 🐎 But this time a cloud of “mom guilt” hung over me as I grappled with what it means to pursue what I love while being a new mother.👼 My doting family gladly watched over my new baby, with my own mother even coming to cheer us on, beyond proud to see us bring home big wins🏆💪🏼 As she did, it dawned on me that one of her greatest gifts to me is our shared love of horses. 💝🐴 And I realized that sharing this tradition, this passion, is so much of what I want for my daughter. 👧🏻 I want her to feel the unconditional love, awe-inspiring power, and spiritual connection these amazing animals offer.💫 I want her to feel as inspired and uplifted as I feel working with individuals the world has forgotten, and seeing them exceed all expectations.🌟 And I realized, as a new mother, I want my little girl to be unapologetically who she is, and live life with love, purpose and passion 🔥 So I thank my own mother for showing me that the more she did and the more she loved, the more she taught me to do and love. 💕 The more fully she lived, the more fully she showed me how to live. And the more bravely she followed her pursuits, the more bravely she showed me how to follow mine. 🌟

Now, as for the competition…Enduring Honor, adopted for less than the cost of a saddle held his own against six-figure horses, winning the 3 foot classic and 3ft Adult Champion.🥇 Fellow racetrack “reject” News Item (AKA Jimmie), an owner surrender, took home championships🏅in both the Green and Thoroughbred divisions🏆 at the @georgiahunterjumperassociation local show organized by @showwiththeco 🌺

And the person who made sure we went to the competition and shared how our underdogs 🐎 became champions, was none other than the matriarch of my family, the original horsewoman, the woman who inspires me to be my best: My mother.❤️

Remembering my Grandpa, a brave World War II veteran this Memorial Day🙏🏼 He was one of more than a quarter million Filipino soldiers who fought alongside American troops during WWII🇵🇭🇺🇸 Sadly, many like him never got the recognition they deserved. After the notorious Bataan Death march in 1942 and the withdrawal of most US forces, the fight was left to locals, and more than 1 million Filipinos died💔 I am remembering the sacrifices of these often forgotten heroes today and throughout Asian American Heritage Month. #ww2veterans #asianamericanheritagemonth #forgottenheroes #memorialday #alliedtroops by @joylimnakrin

Happy Mother’s Day to the worlds’s greatest❤️ My trailblazing mother Teresita is a retired physician who once performed rural medical service on horseback 🐴 in her native Philippines 🇵🇭 Horses literally helped her save lives, and she vowed that one day she would help save them. 🐎 She is the founder of our family’s rescue farm @joyousacres, an amazing mother, wife, animal caregiver and all around incredible human being.
