Wednesday is the Farmer’s Market at Bartel Pritchard Square near me. Today, I loved running into two @440Gallery colleagues, Janet Pedersen and Susan Greenstein, and I watched them finish up their plein air session with these great paintings! @susangreensteinart working in pure watercolor and @janetpedersen1243 working in gouache captured the moments so beautifully, don’t you think? See more of their work at the gallery and both will be showing at Gowanus Open Studios next weekend @artsgowanus taken in Windsor Terrace by @joymakon

@Salmagundiclub ’s newest exhibition is a time capsule: Pairings, Score & More. Artists were asked to submit one current work and one from 20 or more years prior. My pairings are self portraits — a pencil drawing from 1977 (those aviators!) and a watercolor “No 41” from 2023. The show is open now through September 25. Join me for the show reception on Sept 17, 6-8pm and we can toast to how time flies!

“The Family” just finished this watercolor, half sheet of Arches. The mourning doves nested on the ground in my #brooklynbackyard last year and I finally found the courage to paint them! #watercolor #watercolorartist #watercolorbirds by @joymakon

My watercolor “Catnap” is on view at @salmagundiclub in the Summer Exhibition that opens on August 4. I met this sleepy feline during a hot summer trip to Greece, and how appropriate it is to represent this show of seasonal whimsy. Public reception is Wednesday, August 19, 6-8pm.

How sweet it is knowing that your newest art collector is also one of your oldest friends. My painting is now residing in the Philly suburbs with a friend whom I have known almost forever! “Snow Birds” is a half-sheet watercolor from 2014 and was one of my earliest paintings from the lake in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. I love painting snow scenes. I don’t paint birds very often, but when I do I find them so fascinating to observe.

I like how the sunset reflections on the cars look like neapolitan cookies. Fun to experiment with this one. Title anyone? by @joymakon
