Justin commissioned this piece for Ben and I as a wedding present. It tells the story of how we first met, which Justin was an integral part of.

Justin and I were living in this house on Mutual St with 3 other roommates, one of whom needed to sublet their room for the summer. So Justin posted an ad on Craigslist, and this was Ben’s reply. So began lifelong friendships and so much more.

This gift epitomizes Justin: His thoughtfulness, creativity, humour, always thinking outside the box. He knew us so well. I have so many hilarious memories from this house on Mutual Street and will treasure them as I will this gift forever.

We never had a chance to ask Justin who the artist was, if you know whose work this might be please let me know!

Heartbroken at the passing of my dear, dear friend, Justin Gray, aka @fisherpricequeen

Justin was a treasure. The past 15 years of friendship have changed my life profoundly. He was a loving, caring friend, one of the most creative people I’ve ever met, and had an energy that radiated colour and laughter into the world wherever he went.

It’s an understatement to say that Justin lit up a room. He shone. He’d have everyone bursting with laughter within seconds. He was a talented drag artist, TV writer, costume designer, fashion icon, and so much more. He could make anything. He was the funniest, sharpest person I think I’ll ever know. Even towards the end, he never lost his sense of humour. How I’ll miss his jokes and his laugh.

Justin was the kind of friend who would FaceTime me out of the blue to catch up or check in on me when I was going through a difficult time. If anyone else did that, I’d hate it. But with Justin, it was always welcome. He was so special.

When I was 18 we were roommates in my first apartment living away from home and Justin took care of me when I wasn’t taking care of myself. He was the most thoughtful gift giver and the best storyteller. He lived life on his own terms and inspired others to pursue their dreams. He was unapologetically himself, the big, gay brother I always wanted.

I know he meant the world to so many people. His passing is an unimaginable loss to the Gray family, his friends and loved ones in Halifax, all of us who loved him in Toronto including the queer, drag, and film communities.

I can’t believe I’ll never get to hug you again. I’ll cherish our sushi dates, movie nights, drunken cries together, watching you perform, every moment I was so lucky to spend with you. Thank you for being you, I love you Justin and will miss you forever. Rest easy Queen ā¤ļø by @joywebs

My parents ✨ 2025 was full of challenges, and amidst it all both my older sister and I decided to throw two weddings into the mix. My dad married us both, two weeks apart, and my mom beautifully arranged our flowers and was there every step of the way. Their strength and creativity inspires me every day šŸ’•

2025 was the hardest year of my life. But through all the chaos and uncertainty came one of the best days of my life. I got to marry my best friend, surrounded by all the people who we love and who love us the most. We pulled it off in less than two months after getting engaged, doing everything we could by ourselves with the help of our incredible friends and family. We made our own wedding cake together and it slayed. It was a magical day that I am so incredibly grateful for. I love you @imbenoneil šŸ¤

Excited to announce I’ve been selected to participate in @stowestorylabs Remote Writer’s Retreat where I’ll be developing my pilot script for Pendle Hill, a 1-hr dark historical drama.

Set in early 17th century rural northern England, Pendle Hill is based on the true story of the people who became known as the Pendle Witches and their horrifying tale of revenge, conspiracy and magic. It’s a story I’ve been obsessed by since childhood, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into this world next week šŸ’«

This week we’re spotlighting powerhouse filmmaker Joy Webster — a writer, director, editor, and producer whose short films have taken the festival circuit by storm.

Joy is the creative force behindĀ It Was You,Ā BuzzardĀ (which snagged the Golden Sheaf Award for Best Drama at Yorkton 2020),Ā Game,Ā In the Weeds, andĀ Menace. Her talent also extends into the music video world with the bold and expressiveĀ YEAH YEAH by Melanie?, which she wrote, directed, produced, and edited herself.

Joy’s work has screened at major festivals including NewFilmmakers LA, Brooklyn International, San Diego, and Cinéfest Sudbury — earning her accolades like two Best Short awards from Canadian Film Fest, the NSI’s A&E Short Filmmakers Award, andĀ threeĀ Golden Sheaf awards. Her films have aired on CBC, showcased at Cannes through Telefilm’sĀ Not Short on Talent, and even been shortlisted for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards. Currently, she’s one of just eight directors selected for the prestigious WIDC Career Advancement Module — and we can’t wait to see what she creates next. šŸŽ„šŸ’« by @joywebs
