Joseph Yaeger’s Agita, which opened at Gladstone Gallery in New York on 16 September 2026, marks the artist’s first exhibition with the gallery.

The exhibition brings together a new body of psychologically charged paintings executed primarily in watercolour and pigment on heavily gessoed linen.

Drawing upon found cinematic and photographic imagery, Yaeger extracts faces, gestures, clothing and fragments of the body from their original contexts, transforming them into enigmatic, suspended narratives. Figures emerge through smoke, shadow and tightly cropped compositions, producing an atmosphere in which drama is continually intimated yet never fully disclosed.

At the centre of Agita lies an exploration of the instability of memory and perception. Yaeger considers how images drawn from a shared visual culture become refracted through private desire, anxiety and recollection.

False memories, misidentification and the shifting distance between an initial encounter and its subsequent remembrance become both the subject and structure of the work. Suggesting emotional agitation as well as physical unease, the title Agita encapsulates the persistent psychological tension that runs throughout the exhibition.

“My life is a dot lost among thousands of other dots.”

Today the world is mourning but also celebrating the colourful life Yayoi Kusama (1929–2026).

Yayoi Kusama was one of the most important and recognisable artists of our time. Her work explored infinity, repetition and the idea of losing oneself within the universe.

Born in Matsumoto, Japan, in 1929, Kusama experienced hallucinations from a young age, often seeing dots, flowers and patterns repeating endlessly around her. These experiences became a major inspiration for her art throughout her life.

In the late 1950s, Kusama moved to New York, where she became part of the city’s experimental art scene. She created her famous Infinity Net paintings, performances and mirrored installations. Over the following decades, her Infinity Mirror Rooms, polka dots and colourful pumpkins became known around the world.

Kusama died in Tokyo on 14 August 2026, aged 97. She remained deeply dedicated to her art and continued painting until the final days of her life. by @jpartadvisory

Spending the afternoon with Monet @museeorangerie …

At the Musée de l’Orangerie, Claude Monet’s monumental Nymphéas create an immersive world where water, light and reflection seem to dissolve the boundaries of painting.

Conceived as an environment rather than a traditional series of canvases, the works surround the viewer in an almost meditative experience of nature and changing light.

In dialogue with Monet, the contemporary exhibition Par la force des choses presents the work of French artist Alexandre Lenoir. His layered paintings emerge through repeated processes of covering, scraping and revealing, creating hazy images that seem suspended between memory and reality.

Like Monet, Lenoir is less interested in precise representation than in atmosphere, perception and the way an image slowly reveals itself to the eye. @alexandrelenoir_

The encounter creates a beautiful conversation between Impressionism and contemporary painting, separated by more than a century yet connected through their fascination with light, colour and the instability of vision. taken in Musée de l'Orangerie by @jpartadvisory

Born in Versailles in 1980, Laurent Proux lives and works in Paris. His practice moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction, exploring the relationship between the human body, labour and the environments we inhabit.

While his earlier paintings often focused on factories, machinery and industrial spaces, his more recent works place the body at the centre of increasingly complex compositions. Figures appear fragmented, stretched or intertwined with landscapes and architectural forms, while unexpected colours and shifting perspectives create a sense of psychological tension.

At the heart of Proux’s work is an exploration of power, vulnerability and the physical experience of work. Rather than constructing clear narratives, his paintings operate like ambiguous stages where bodies, machines and nature collide. Familiar scenes become strange and slightly unsettling, leaving the viewer to navigate between intimacy and discomfort.

Proux’s institutional recognition has grown significantly in recent years. In 2025, he presented his first institutional solo exhibition at the Musée de l’Abbaye in Saint-Claude. His work is also held in several important French public collections, including the CNAP, FRAC Occitanie, FRAC Limousin, FRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the City of Paris collection (FMAC).
