Before class begins, we want to tantalise your taste buds.

Fruit can do so much more than we give it credit for. Through FERMENTED, our Liquid Chef, @jpegb_ _, is exploring what happens when we give ingredients time, patience and a little imagination.

Their first creation is the FERMENTED GINGER FUZZ.

Think summer kwa gae. The cousins have arrived. The grandchildren are running around. Koko opens the fridge and there it is: a big barrel of ginger beer she’s been fermenting for days.

Spicy. Zesty. Tart. Refreshing. Warming.

It’s the kind of drink that tastes like home; like sitting outside on a hot afternoon, drinking something cold while the adults talk and the whole house is alive.

A little nostalgia in a glass. A quencher for that insatiable feeling of missing home.

Come ready to travel all the way back. Right into Koko’s hands, reimagined by Bokang.

To kickstart our journey into the FERMENTED Series, we’re introducing you to some of the hands, and minds, bringing this experience to life. First up: Bokang @jpegb_ Motshabi. A multifaceted artist, curator and, (yes, you heard it here first) our dedicated Liquid Chef.

FERMENTED gives us the rare opportunity to experience just how expansive Bokang’s practice is in real time. Their deep knowledge of spirits, combined with a fascination for mixing, stirring and shaking, makes them an integral part of the experience.

For Workshop One: KEEP, Bokang will be working with fermented ginger beer to create a concoction we think everyone needs to taste: THE FERMENTED GINGER FUZZ. Think Spicy. Zesty. Tart.

A perfect pairing for our indigenous food menu. With a flavour profile that takes you straight back to Koko’s house on a hot summer day. This is fermentation through another lens: in the glass, at the table and in the hands of the people making it.

Come join us for the FERMENTED Series.

Bring a bag, there’ll be lots to take home.

Foreward: II.

The root, cura: care- or more helpfully,  curare: to care for, grounds and guides our practice as custodians of culture.

To grapple with selves historied with rupture, reduction, and redaction, Nthabiseng Boledi Kekana (b.1999)  authors offerings that peregrinate through
the tumult of unearthing memory and selfhood by way of ochres of becoming and thatch-edificed sanctums. Through layered and textured works, we, the audience, are asked what it means to be ever swallowed into the ebb of future, untethered and without anchor.  We must "go back and fetch" our fragments across time to (re)member ourselves whole.

DANGER | KOTSI is ever grateful to @wunikamukangallery @wunika and @nthabibkekana for allowing us to provide the care the work demands of us.

To the seen and unseen - Thank you🙏

Names Like Rivers, Faces Like Fire would not have been possible without every heart and spirit that carried this vision.

To the artists and the beautiful audience who joined us, your presence gave breath to the work and reminded us of why we gather. To those who labored quietly behind the scenes and those who held space in ways that may never fully be visible,
We honor you too.

The exhibition is officially closed but we do invite you to continue walking with us through it's stories.

Dumelang batho ba Ko Tlung🙏

I am proud and humbled to be curating alongside two brilliant minds, Bontle Tau and Sam Ngcobo, as we bring life to a show that speaks to identity and transformation. This project marks a significant moment, not just for us as individuals, but for what it means when two collectives come together with a shared commitment to radical care.

KOLLECTIVA (@kollectiva_), based in the Free State, and BLVCK BLOCK, rooted in Johannesburg, join forces to present a deeply intentional offering.

NAMES LIKE RIVERS, FACES LIKE FIRE is a group exhibition featuring works by Teboho Mokhothu, Sibenoxolo Foji, Omolemo Rammile, Jacobeth Selinga, and Mbali Mdikane, members of the South African Collectives BLVCK BLOCK and KOLLECTIVA.

The exhibition embraces the fluid, complex, and often contradictory nature of identity. Moving between softness and intensity, it reflects on ancestry, resistance, transformation and the refusal to be defined.

Rooted in the ethos of both collectives, the show offers a powerful and tender narrative where it flows like a river and burns like fire.

The exhibition will not only feature a vibrant opening, but will also include an engaging and insightful walkabout.

Opening on the 9th of August 2025 at The Women's Jail, Constitution Hill, Johannesburg.
⏳ 17:30 for 18:00

This is a declaration of intent.

Bring your heart, your questions and your ancestors.

Ditebogo 🙏🙏✨
