🏜️ a foot falls, loud in the deep silence of the dusty road.
If ever there were a main street more deserted than this, ‘twould cease to exist altogether.
Not the smallest, nor least developed… but the absence of human breath weighed weightily upon my shoulders before being swiftly whisked away by the wind.
Closed markets, marked with scribbled signs that indicate they should be open to public entry.
The thrill of anticipating a silence broken superseded my soul’s journey towards boredom.
Not a bird, nor a fly disturbed my waitfulness.
I shall never return,
but i would not mind revisiting the tense peacefulness of the dusty road.

🌖 saw a siren from the bayou last night

journal entry:

As the wreath of moon dust absorbed all other surrounding light,
I was encompassed, consumed by the act of witnessing its beauty.
As if to perform an ancient symphony, the toads and swamp insects harmonized; movement after movement, slipping slowly into synchronized cacophony.
My foolishness never felt so powerful as it did there; sitting upon a lifeless tree draping the waters ominous edge.
What lurked in the weeds and muck below its surface?
What risk did the movement of my limbs impose upon my person as they ventured the shallow floors in careful disruption.
But what is life, if not to risk it all for a moment of the eerie whimsical?
A companion sat opposite me upon the magnificent plant’s corpse, embodying what lonely hunters of the bayou would claim as an encounter with the spiritual world.
A nymph? A swamp siren? Perhaps a vengeful spirit with gaping eyes as beautiful and round as the full moon. The eyes of that force of nature gently caressed me with their gaze, its homo sapien pair of twins (combined, making triplets), following suit. The sky’s nightlight stared only upon me, wishing to heal me in its own fashion.
But its face cannot listen. Only its beloved twins upon the face of a pale daughter of earth were heard in their sorrows and queries. Its sisters, the stars, heard my grievances, and kindly relayed them in full.
No fae, nor slimy creature of the depths disturbed the silence of our musings;
the lack of event made it that much more magical.
