I finished out my jungle tours with a blast by making friends with a small family of howler monkeys!!!

The Community Baboon Sanctuary (baboon is the regional name for howler monkeys) is a very special place that I highly recommend for everyone to visit.

It is not a rescue center or a park. instead, it is simply a local voluntary agreement that started in the 70s and became finalized in 1985 for the villagers along this part of the Belize river to not clear cut the forest for any reason solely to preserve the monkeys’ habitat (other wildlife benefits too, of course).

The monkeys know they are protected here, and have grown familiar with the local guides such that they will come down from the trees to eat mangos and other fruit and allow people with the guides to get a closer look at them.

It has to be a guide that they know and trust, otherwise they will not come down from the trees.

I am very glad I visited this special place and I hope to someday return to stay in one of their local eco lodges to have a more full experience.

Absolutely MIND BLOWING sunset views from our 2nd night of camping at Mojave National Preserve.

Another OUTSTANDING dive trip with power scuba and Pacific Star!!!

Rogelio, Paul, and I got to see a group of fish feeding on a sizeable octopus carcass, which is one of the more unique encounters I’ve ever had diving

This morning we got to explore about 4 miles of trails at Jack London State Historic Park

This turned out to be a very surprising hidden gem for NorCal!

This property is not only where Jack lived and wrote several of his novels, but he also operated it as a working farm using organic, self sustaining farming practices as a way of proving to other farmers that it is possible to reject use of chemicals and commercialized farming.

Our tour guide Booker at Storybook Mountain Vineyards stopped giving us a tour to run off into the vineyard to eat a bunch of grapes, take a nap in the vineyard, then took off running through the wine cave like it was his personal race track….but he is living his best life at the vineyard so we respect it
