𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗜𝗣𝗧𝗬𝗖𝗛
A diptych is created when two images sit side by side on a singular frame. They come naturally with half frame cameras, where two smaller images can be found within one regular 35mm frame, sitting side by side, often leading on from one another. Through this, it also signifies the passage of time. But what if we were to deconstruct this? Take apart the diptych, separating each diptych into two separate images? And then construct the diptych again from the ground-up, but this time, overlaying the images over each other? Well you get something like this…

Inspired stylistically by @boris.vita.mikhailov ‘s project ‘Yesterday’s Sandwich’ , completed between 1960s and 70s in Soviet Ukraine, it’s my aim on visually deconstructing the idea how one digests an image and the concept of time attached to it.

ABSTRACTION: shooting color-shifting films in the diptych format

In part 4 of this project, I explored abstraction through overlaying different exposures over one another, almost deconstructing the idea of the diptych. Here, I am focusing on the same thing, abstraction, but through a different perspective. Instead of using regular colored 35mm film, I utilized @lomography LomoChrome Purple, which significantly shifts the colors in images - particular those with with greens and blues. I wanted to abstract my environment, but to a lesser degree than that of my overlays in part 4, creating an environment that felt both familiar and alien.

The Côte D’Azure on 35mm slide film. All shot on @fujifilm_profilm / @fujifilmuk FujiChrome Velvia 100, Velvia 50 and Provia 100F on the Nikon FM2 equipped with F/2 35mm AI-S D Lens. Processed in E6 chemistry and scanned by @notquitenorth_ . All these images were shot in July of this year (2026) - a summer blast from then not so long ago past. 🇫🇷

AN X-RAY OF DOVER
about : Using Washi F Flurographic ‘x-ray’ film loaded inside a 1960s half frame camera, I took an X-RAY OF DOVER from the perspective of someone who’s never set foot in this city prior. These images were taken on a four day trip to the city alongside by boyfriend and his sister, where I made the effort to take in the new surroundings and take images in a more ‘limo’ style- disregarding aspects like composition and whether the shot was ‘film worthy’…going off purely “vibes”. Here, often unintentionally, I uncover the feelings I had towards this cosmopolitan but gritty, tired city.

It’s on the tip of my tongue,
A memory so rich and vibrant,
Yet forgotten, faint and rare.
My lips forever clasp silent,
Imprisoning these memories solitaire,
Within walls made of the fear of forgetting,
The fear of denouncing these shards of the past,
Opaque and glass-like enough to see the future, yet sharp enough to curse it.
But they can only ferment in my mind for so long,
And when I’m unable to pronounce each detail
Each singular grain,
Each slight spec of reminisence,
A part of me is laid to rest.

About : My uni photographic project where I explore the themes of memory, the fear of forgetting and materiality through the digitization of old 35mm slides combined with my own poetry. These slides have been appropriated from an unnamed person who took these images over three decades ago, questioning the idea of authorship and authenticity.

Re-remembering…
