šŸ‘€ For the past few months, I have been working as a Physical Performance Coach at @lewesfcwomen.

This opportunity came through my training with @casagrandecoachingacademy, which gave me the tools and knowledge to take on this role.

It is a constant learning process and a reminder that putting yourself out there, even when it’s uncomfortable, is where growth happens.

Grateful to the club and everyone who’s supported me along the way! šŸ™ŒšŸ¦āš”ļø

______

We’re so proud to highlight Joanna Setó, one of the graduates of our first Academy cohort back in May this year.

With the support and mentorship of the Academy, Jo has just accepted her first job in the semi-professional game - with Lewes FC Women, a club aiming to fight for promotion to the second tier of English women’s football.

From juggling five different jobs to now stepping into a paid coaching role that will challenge her and help her grow - this is exactly what we set out to build the Academy for.

Jo, who graduated university last year, is being mentored by our founder, Ivi Casagrande, through pre-season - building her own processes and systems as she steps into the role and sets herself up for a strong season ahead.

Last season, while in the Academy, Joanna was placed as a S&C coach at Montpellier Villa while also doing a video analysis placement at Lewes FC.

This is what a real coaching pipeline looks like.

For everyone who’s expressed interest in the Academy - we’re currently developing the next cohort for next year. It’ll look a little different from the pilot, with a continued focus on giving practitioners the right tools to succeed in their careers in the women’s game. More details coming soon. by @jsports.coaching

over and out @casagrandecoachingacademy!

The past 10 months have been unbelievable. Full of learnings and experiences that I wouldn’t have had straight after university if @ivicasagrande hadn’t created this project, the academy.

It has been amazing to reflect on and see everything click into place, although it wouldn’t have been even half of the same without my amazing companions (The Guinea Pigs), who are now also friends. We all come from different backgrounds but we have one same goal in mind: to improve the women’s game. It really has been a pleasure to learn and discuss with you all.

Big thank you to all the great talks we have had throughout the academy from great experts that have spoken about all their knowledge for us to take into our experiences.

To my placements, @montpeliervillawfc and @lewesfcwomen, thank you for opening me the doors to your environments. I have learned so much.

And finally to Ivi, I’ve told you before, but what you’ve built takes courage, and you can be very proud of it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.

Can’t wait to see what’s next!

A couple of weeks ago I also finished my @casagrandecoachingacademy placement as an analyst at @lewesfcwomen.

I had been told that the club was ā€œlocalā€, but I didn’t fully understand it until I lived it.

My role adapted throughout the placement, and I was given the freedom to enjoy it, but most importantly, learn from it and from the great people in the environment.

I would like to thank @emmsbyrne and @_kellylindsey for giving me that flexibility, supporting me in my projects and progress. Big thank you to @leahsamain1996 as well, who taught me and had a lot of patience with me learning new skills.

A mention to @lb65mwy and @shrey19946 for all the work they have done behind the scenes.

@essex_athletic_rehab_bhg and @dds_method, thank you for making me feel as one more, and for sharing experiences in our first year of football careers.

To the players, I hope my observations have been helpful.

This wouldn’t have been possible without @ivicasagrande and her academy, who have given me the opportunity to be around this amazing environment.

And after 5 months, I can now say and understand, that Lewes is, a very special place. UP THE ROOKS!šŸ–¤ā¤ļø

On Sunday I finished my @casagrandecoachingacademy placement as an S&C coach at @montpeliervillawfc.

It has been 5 months of joining an environment halfway through the season and learning new ways of doing things, whilst still developing my S&C knowledge.

There has been highs and lows, but it has all been a massive learning opportunity.

I would like to thank @td_brighton for welcoming me at the start of this journey and giving me the freedom to try out everything I wanted to, and supporting me with it.

@tanyaroberts1111 and @scarlettnewton were also there throughout the journey, telling me what was working and what wasn’t, helping me define my principles & methods, and also supporting my ideas. We made a great team.

To the players, thank you for trusting the process. From the first day, you understood what my role was and helped me help you. It has been a pleasure to coach you.

Finally, I would like to thank @ivicasagrande for what she has built. I know how difficult these opportunities are at the start of my career but, you trusted me to join your academy as a recent university graduate, and gave me the tools to shape my career. I really value what you have done.

It has been an amazing period that I will always remember, short but intense. Thank you! Up the Villa!! by @jsports.coaching

10 months. 5 coaches. 3 clubs. 1 question:

What happens when you stop teaching coaches and start putting them in it?

We placed them inside real club environments — grassroots to professional — and built everything around them:

→ Continuous support and guidance throughout every placement
→ A curriculum designed around the challenges they actually face
→ Monthly reflections on their growth
→ Peer learning with a cohort going through the same thing
→ A bridge between their qualifications and the real world of coaching

They found their voice. They led when nobody asked them to. They hit walls and found ways through. They built things from nothing. They reflected harder than they ever have.

Saturday 30 May — our first cohort graduates.

A special thanks to every expert who gave their time to support our coaches and our mission this year. You know who you are — and so do they.

This is what it looks like when a coach is given the right environment to grow.

Joanna joined our Incubator Programme as a Football Coach and Performance Analyst. Through her placement she’s been leading on-pitch warm-ups and designing performance programmes at Montpelier Villa, while also stepping into a Performance Analyst role at Lewes FC Women — supporting the technical staff with Individual Development Plans and helping players see the game differently.

Two clubs. Two roles. One coach connecting it all.

That’s what our programme is built to do — not just teach, but place coaches in real environments where they can apply, adapt, and grow. Joanna didn’t just learn about systems — she started shaping them.

Our first cohort graduates on 30 May. More to come.

Today marks the 500th match for the Lionesses after the 50 year ban was lifted in 1972. While this is a massive milestone for the game in England, for me, it represents the standard of excellence that brought me here to be part of this industry.

Coming to England was a decision fuelled by a desire for a higher level of opportunity and professional challenge. Watching the Lionesses’ journey hasn’t just been about ā€œwatching footballā€, it has been a study in high-performance culture, tactical discipline, and the power of representation.

Lately, I’ve realised that the biggest driver of my own progress isn’t just ā€œdoingā€ the work, it’s the reflection after the work is done. I’ve found that taking the time to pause and reflect is what reveals new solutions. It’s how we move from being ā€œbusyā€ to being ā€œeffective.ā€

Because the women’s game is developing so fast, reflection isn’t just a hobby, it’s a necessity. If we don’t constantly pause to analyse and reflect on our processes, we risk falling behind the incredible pace the game is moving at and we risk taking the game in the wrong direction.

As a young female coach, I don’t just look at this team as a fan; I look at them as a benchmark. Their 500-match legacy is a reminder that consistency and constant self-evaluation are the only ways to stay at the top.

Here’s to the next 500, and to the work happening behind the scenes to keep pushing the boundaries of the women’s game. āš½ļøšŸ“ˆ
