Golden hour doesn’t wait for you to be ready.

You get maybe twenty minutes up here before the sun drops behind the ridge and the whole thing goes flat. So you shoot fast, you trust the light, and you hope the cars do the rest.

These two did.

A pair of C8 Z06s, white and hypersonic grey, parked on a dirt turnout with burned trees standing behind them like a reminder that this landscape has been through something. There’s a flat plane crank V8 in each one that revs to 8,600 and sounds like nothing else built in America. But sitting still, in that light, they didn’t need to make a sound.

Twenty minutes. Worth the drive up.

Some mornings are worth the alarm.

6:45 call time, coast road, no traffic and no fog. Just a 991 GT3 RS and the kind of light you only get for about forty minutes before the day turns ordinary.

Silver paint, blue script, yellow harnesses, and a wing that looks completely absurd until you understand what it’s for. Porsche’s last naturally aspirated RS before everything changed. Cars like this photograph well from any angle, but get one alone on an open road at sunrise and it turns into something else entirely.

Grateful to the owner for trusting me with it, and for being the kind of person who says yes to a sunrise call time.
