Life Lately: Making HISTORY 📈

I usually keep my work accomplishments over on LinkedIn, but I think this deserves to live over here as well. 💻

As of October 3rd of this year, I became 1 of 239 technical professionals at @amazonwebservices GLOBALLY, out of approximately 140,000, who currently holds every active technical AWS certification (currently 13 total) and earned my AWS Golden Jacket 🧥 . I’m also the first Black person in my organization at work to ever do it.

At the beginning of this year I only had 2 of the 13. 😳

Without making this too long, about a year ago I had transitioned into my new, challenging role at work as a Cloud Solutions Architect. In true fashion, I was deciding on ways I was going to push my career forward and keep the bar sky high. One thing led to another, and we landed here. It was quite the journey and this year has definitely been a test of discipline, being able to say no often, and keeping the main thing to main thing. My original goal was to finish before the end of the year but as the momentum built, I was able to accelerate things and finish the deal on my 3 year work anniversary.

At the beginning of the year I had 3 very simple goals. Be a standout at work, keep showing up for my community and those that matter, and grow my professional network substantially. Even with this crazy goal, I’ve been able to accomplish each of those things and I’m extremely proud of that.

I say all this to say, whatever that “thing” is that you have sitting in your notes that you can’t stop thinking about, go do it. Sit down today, write a plan, and make it happen. And don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of that. Lastly, thanks so much to my friends who always checked in, made sure I was good and staying on goal, and just supporting me throughout. Real ones ✊🏿

I’m so used to just making things happen and not really discussing what I have going on. This year I decided (after some bullying from friends) that I’ll be better about dropping knowledge, tips, tricks, etc. Especially after the Gold Jacket situation.
Aite, so boom. My YouTube channel jtalkstechofficial is live, and my first video dives into my Gold Jacket journey, top questions I was asked, and what even led me along that way.

Word on the street is that everyone wants to use AI but few actually understand how to govern the tool. Rolling out AI without guardrails is like building a house without a blueprint. It might look good at first, but what happens when things go left? How do we embrace automation without losing accountability? Here’s what AWS professionals @thecybersecuritybabe & @jtalkstechofficial have to say about it. Tune in💻

Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month! 💻🔐

Is AI our best defense or our biggest threat? Well that probably depends on who you ask. My work with @amazonwebservices sits at the intersection of Security and Generative AI & I was recently invited by my friend @emcbrideiv_ to talk about this and all things cybersecurity on his podcast for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with my colleague @thecybersecuritybabe . We broke down how bad actors and defenders are both leveraging AI, why governance matters more than ever & if we’re even doing enough, and much more. Conversation dropping soon, can’t wait for you all to check it out .

@amazonwebservices just dropped the first professional-level GenAI certification on the market, and raised the bar (Again!)

I recently became 1 of the first 5,000 people worldwide to pass it so I’m giving you the game on how you can prepare and pass it too.

Life Lately: Talking Tech 🤖

We had a great conversation on the Amazon panel at @techsgiving this past weekend , talking about all things Generative AI and what the future technological prospects could look like for us going forward !

We spoke about common misconceptions surrounding Gen AI, how both technical and non technical users can leverage these tools to be more efficient and impactful, and one of my favorite topics, AI Agents.

Swipe for a few brief words from me regarding what things could look like going forward regarding agents, but I think it’s important for all of us to know and be aware that AI Agents will most likely revolutionize the world, akin to when the internet was first widely adopted.

The work I do at @amazonwebservices sits at the intersection of Generative AI and Security so we couldn’t leave without talking about how we can leverage AI responsibly also.

A huge shoutout to the rest of my esteemed panelists Precious, Diya, @chynnatown_ , and thank you to @jessislife for always tapping me in.

So many great questions and conversations were had, love hearing about how people are leveraging these technologies. Feel free to reach out if you have questions or just want to chat about AI. I’m here.

Finally, as Amazon VP & CTO Dr Werner Vogels said recently, “AI will not replace human jobs, but people who know how to use AI will replace those who do not. Always stay curious”.

Keep that top of mind for me .

Life Lately: HUMBLED 🕴🏾

Wow, I’m still lowkey in shock about this but I was chosen as Volunteer of the Year by my esteemed Black Employee Network at work @bendmv .

I’ve been at @amazonwebservices for 3 years now and BEN has made a PROFOUND impact on my life, both personally and professionally and I’m indebted.

One of my 3 “must have” goals of 2025 was to show up more and harder for my community and people and this is more affirmation that I did that as best I could. I’m not looking for anyone to come save me or my people, we got us. So I’ll always show up with and for the people and put in the work, I encourage you to do the same.

THANK YOU BEN DMV board, members, all yall. That’s the fam forreal 🖤 taken in Amazon 2nd HQ by @jtalkstechofficial

Excited to share that I’ll be speaking at the 6th Annual Techsgiving Summit, happening December 10–13 in Washington, D.C.! 🎉

I’ll be joining the Amazon panel, “The AI-Enabled Workplace: How Different Functions Drive Better Solutions,” on December 11th, sharing how technical and non-technical professionals can use AI to enhance their daily work, collaborate better, and create stronger solutions. This topic hits different for me, as I currently work at the intersection of generative AI and how we can democratize the discipline in a way that’s digestible for all of us.

Techsgiving brings together innovators, leaders, and changemakers across tech to empower underrepresented communities and build the future together.

Join me and thousands of others for four days of learning, connection, and impact. Use code: TGAMZNFRNDS for 25% off when booking.💡
