#MessagesforLC ..."There’s something almost magical about knowing and being accepted for who you are by a genius, especially a poetic, musical genius. It’s not exactly a spiritual experience, but something just as impactful. It’s transformative and truly life changing. It never leaves you and, if you’re as lucky as I was, it stays with you in a very profound way. It leaves you feeling like, I may not be all that much myself, but I was once a good friend and confidante of an exceptional, once-in-a-century man. And he cared for me and remembered me over all the years.
Leonard, Marianne and Me— 244
And I knew him to be kind and caring and generous and oh-so-funny and playful and yet sad and sincere and serious all at the same time. That he was able to galvanize all those myriad, contradictory states of mind and emotion over so many years, into beautiful works of music and poetry is a testament to his enduring genius.
