Update: It really bums me out how much Instagram jacks with color… but this piece is officially finished!!! It changed significantly during tonight’s final push. (apologies for the audio) You’ll have to come see it @artclecticnashville next weekend to get the whole experience. The well-over-one-hundred-year-old frame that goes on this baby… I have never seen anything like it. 💞 A lot of love has gone into both.

In progress, but reaching completion, on this unexpected conjuring of Saint Francis of Assisi. I think most anyone protecting animals is pretty saintly.

Pretty proud of this frame repair 💞 such an incredible gift when friends bring me these magnificent broken frames. They buoy my heart and my work, bigtime 🙏🏼❤️‍🔥

This one presented the happy accidental inspiration to crop the stitched & painted portrait from a piece I made for @slownoodles back in 2024. I always loved this piece and never felt sure how to bring it forward after that incredible exhibition and opportunity. Now it is a perfect little gem, with beautiful metaphor intact - fit for Chantha Nguon’s incredible work with Mekong Blue. Since it is made on donated Mekong Blue silk, proceeds from the sale of this piece will go back there, to support the incredible work they do within the Cambodian community. 🦋

This Saturday is Tuffy’s Birthday 🎂 I can’t remember if he’s 11 or 12 ( @johnflower ?? ) Regardless, I am one of the proudest Moms. Getting to hang out with this guy all the time, and watch how much joy he brings into the world is the feckin best.

We will be hanging at the gallery all day (12-6) so feel free to drop by and shower this boy with pats, treats, toys, kisses… he deserves it all!!! You are so loved Tuff man.

AND if you read this far, I have a proposition for you. If you bring my son a birthday gift, I am going to give you a 20% discount, that will not expire, to use on your next acquisition of an artwork from JMG 🎁 Regardless, there will be cookies and champagne, so swing by and check out the amazing Combs exhibit. xo

One month out.
Photographer Mary Craven Dawkins spent an afternoon in Featured Artist Julia Martin’s Nashville studio while Julia works toward Artclectic’s 30th anniversary show — the paint tubes, the much-loved brushes, the canvases leaning three deep against the wall.
Julia first showed at Artclectic more than twenty years ago. “It changed my life,” she told us. “It inspired me to try going full time as an artist.”
Swipe through for more of what she said about patience, instinct, and why she believes art chooses the artist.
