One month out.
Photographer Mary Craven Dawkins spent an afternoon in Featured Artist Julia Martin’s Nashville studio while Julia works toward Artclectic’s 30th anniversary show — the paint tubes, the much-loved brushes, the canvases leaning three deep against the wall.
Julia first showed at Artclectic more than twenty years ago. “It changed my life,” she told us. “It inspired me to try going full time as an artist.”
Swipe through for more of what she said about patience, instinct, and why she believes art chooses the artist.

You may or may not be aware that I was tapped as the featured artist for Artclectic this year, but I wanted to share it here because the relationship between the University School of Nashville (USN) and Julia Martin Gallery is so strong and layered in so many ways. I did not fully realize it until their wonderful Event Chairs and I started making plans.

Roughly 20 years ago, Artclectic was one of the first experiences to show me that I might have a shot at becoming a full-time artist - so much so, that to this day, I still frequently recommend it to young up-and-coming artists.

Since opening JMG, some of our highlight exhibitions have been with USN’s own Delia Seigenthaler and Emily Holt. These remain two of my favorite artists, who have taught me so much. They also built a singularly powerful arts program for USN and have been shaping the creative minds of its students for decades.

To boot, some of my favorite student groups to visit the gallery over the years have been USN classes. This school just plays a really important role in Nashville’s art community. It is a huge honor to help them celebrate 30 years and feels like a full circle moment.

I am busting my tail to finish a collection of new and revisited works for the occasion. I hope you will come experience them, along with the incredibly elegant show that these folks put together every year.

If you’re looking to find your footing in Nashville’s art community, or show your work for the first time… why not submit your work next year? You never know where it might lead, but I can promise you won’t regret it.

You can easily find out what's inside a listing from the description, pictures, and a good tour. Once you like what you see, I want to make sure you get a good idea of what life outside your door can look like.

And with a bold red one like this, you know it's going to be something fun. 🚪

This Wedgewood-Houston townhome is the kind of place where you step outside and you're already part of the Nashville action. Restaurants people have been eyeing since before opening day, art galleries that make the neighborhood unique, and hot spots like @sohohouse & @geodispark are just minutes away.

You get to live where people plan their entire weekend. It actually doesn't get better than that.

BTW - If you're at @momotaronashville and see me, come say hey! That's my WeHo spot at the moment. 🍣

I'm @nashvilleboundwithanna, a Nashville REALTOR® with @compass.tennessee and founder of @thehollingsworthgroup. I've watched this city transform for over a decade, and I'm here to help you navigate it. Follow for real talk on Nashville real estate, neighborhoods, and market insights. 🏡

Thirty years of Artclectic. 🖤
Three days in October, the Sperling Gym draped in black and turned into a real gallery — 65 professional artists from across the country, chosen by a jury of artists and collectors, with 30% of every sale coming back to USN.
We do it for four reasons. Education: Friday belongs to our students, and featured artist Julia Martin is on campus all week making art with them. Community: it’s how alumni and their parents stay tied to this school for decades. Fundraising: over $1 million raised for USN across the show’s history. And great art — painters, potters, weavers, woodworkers. If you need something for your home or your office, you’ll find it here.
October 22–24. Follow @artclecticnashville.
