POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m open to submissions until the end of October and then for the first ten days of each month.

You can check out my agency profile (link in bio) for my tastes, but briefly:

In fiction I am particularly looking for a literary thriller; an upmarket reading group novel with a strong hook; a propulsive literary novel; narrative non-fiction that illuminates a specific historical event or period; and a strong piece of investigative non-fiction.

Books I’ve loved recently include: The God of the Woods, The Death of Us, Kala, The Wedding People, The Correspondent, Blue Sisters, Ordinary Human Failings, A Family Matter London Falling, Careless People.

Happy publication day to the brilliant @amandajmason for THE DARK. A spinetingling seaside folk horror novel set against the blackouts of the 1970s.

Young, pregnant Rosie is living alone in a cottage with a history, while her boyfriend Isaac is away working on an oil rig. The villagers are taking an uncomfortably close interest in her pregnancy and before long she starts to notice strange noises and unexplained shadows in the corners of her home.

But Rosie isn’t the only one in the village who has cause to fear the dark…

Yes, it’s every bit as creepy as it sounds.

So many thanks to @sophiemorme and all the team at @manilla_press for the beautiful package and brilliant publishing, as ever. by @julia_s_reading

I am honoured to be included in The Independent’s 2026 Climate 100 list, alongside campaigners, scientists, innovators, business leaders, artists, policymakers and grassroots changemakers, from Erin Brockovich, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir David Attenborough to Al Gore, King Charles III and Prince William. All of us bring different knowledge and approaches, because no one can solve this challenge alone.

For fashion, addressing the climate crisis means looking beyond the latest material innovation or sustainable collection to the systems and relationships in which they are entangled: how fibres are grown and processed, whose knowledge is valued, and what happens to soil, air and water along the way.

Some of the most important climate solutions are not new at all. They can be found in traditional knowledge, in craft, in Indigenous communities who have longstanding understood the limits of natural systems, and in ways of working with the land that recognise what we receive as a gift.

I’m grateful to share this platform with so many people whose work I admire. Change needs all of us, and it needs us to keep learning from one another if we are to create a different future.

A few things I read this summer:

Sunstruck: enjoyed this as a glossy, Saltburn-esque read, but felt a little thin in places.

The Correspondent: loved the sense of possibility in later life coexisting with the pain and regret of past mistakes. Fully deserving of the affection and accolades it’s received imo.

London Falling: brilliant in audio. PRK is a flawless storyteller, weaving this tale from the most delicate threads of information to create something that feels like more than the sum of its parts.

Didion & Babitz: If you only ever read one book, make it this one - literally everyone who ever mattered is in it ❤️

Just a Little Dinner: I’m a big fan of the genre of dinner party disaster stories - Festen, Le Dîner des Cons, among others. This is a brilliant addition - the experience of reading is like watching a play; it’s perfectly paced, and a masterclass in character from the author. A gem.

Heartwood: I liked this a lot. Beautifully written literary thriller about a hiker who goes missing on the Appalachian Trail. Smartly structured with a pervading sense of melancholy and an engaging protagonist. My first of hers, and I’ll be reading more. by @julia_s_reading

Two stunning covers (UK and US), two different titles, same brilliant novel.

If you’re a NetGalley member and you love historical fiction, you can download THREE NIGHTINGALES now.

In the aftermath of Boston’s 1942 Cocoanut Grove fire - an event that led to the development of pioneering medical treatments that are still in use today - three women join forces as Alice searches for her boyfriend, Inez investigates and Nina treats the victims.

@gemma_tizzard brings time and place vividly to life through her meticulous research and brilliant characterisation, to which an array of wonderful reviews already attest:

‘Wow! An absolutely incredible story. I finished in two days. Emotional, hopeful, riveting’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘A very compelling story about the bravery, determination and compassion of three young women’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘A wonderful read. I also loved the historical aspect of it. I loved this book!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘A book that will stay with me for a long time’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘Historical fiction at its most riveting’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
‘I was legitimately on the edge of my seat’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ by @julia_s_reading

Happy publication day to BIRTH POWER 🎉🎉🎉 the first book to bring together scientific data, political insight, lived experience and practical tools, so we can understand our choices and navigate the system as it is, in order be full participants in our own pregnancy and birth experience.

So proud be @birth_ed agent. If ever there was proof that this book is needed, it is the publication yesterday of the Ockenden report, a devastating review of maternity services at Nottingham NHS Trust and the systemic failings, aspects of which are sadly reflected in trusts all over the country.

Shockingly the conversations we are having now about the ways in which women and babies are being failed due to poor systems, NHS staff burnout and the lack of support for midwives, are the exact same ones that were taking place 18 and 12 years ago when I had my two children.

There are so many factors that lead to poor outcomes and we can’t resolve them all overnight, which is why the work of women like Megan who understand the system both from he inside and outside, is so vital. by @julia_s_reading

It’s my birthday today, and also officially my tenth anniversary of being an agent. My timing was great - June 23 2016 was the day of the Brexit referendum, and I had a seven-year-old and a very small toddler who liked to wake up at 4.30 every day. I launched myself into agenting with a completely blank slate and no one to please but myself, after nearly 20 years on the ‘other side’, and I was completely unprepared for the levels of stress, rejection and, frankly, poverty that would follow.

But also nothing could have prepared me for the thrill of working with the most incredible writers, whose creativity, resilience and sheer brilliance still have the power to astonish me. They have turned out between them, among other things, a Reese Witherspoon book club pick, a Waterstones and Times thriller of the Month and Year, shortlistings for the Wainwright Prize, the McKitterick Prize and the V. S Pritchett Short Story Prize, a BBC Between the Covers Pick, Sunday Times bestsellers, Amazon top ten bestsellers and an Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year, not to mention being adapted for TV, and the stage.

I am so grateful to all my clients for trusting me with your work and being true partners in an industry that doesn’t always make it easy to keep believing in ourselves, let alone each other. THANK YOU. And please keep celebrating yourselves like I’m doing today. We deserve to make a noise! by @julia_s_reading
