Over the moon to learn that The Nature of Fashion: A Botanical Story of Our Material Lives has been shortlisted for the @worldofbooksofficial Sustainable Story Award! The award celebrates authors whose work explores sustainability, climate and the environment through storytelling with the hope of encouraging more writers to tackle the challenges of our time.

It is a strange and wondrous thing to spend years writing a book and then watch it make its way into the world. I have received so many lovely comments from readers who have connected with its stories, and with the snippets of my own story running through it. I would love The Nature of Fashion to reach more people, so this shortlist really means a lot.

I am honoured to be included in The Independent’s 2026 Climate 100 list, alongside campaigners, scientists, innovators, business leaders, artists, policymakers and grassroots changemakers, from Erin Brockovich, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir David Attenborough to Al Gore, King Charles III and Prince William. All of us bring different knowledge and approaches, because no one can solve this challenge alone.

For fashion, addressing the climate crisis means looking beyond the latest material innovation or sustainable collection to the systems and relationships in which they are entangled: how fibres are grown and processed, whose knowledge is valued, and what happens to soil, air and water along the way.

Some of the most important climate solutions are not new at all. They can be found in traditional knowledge, in craft, in Indigenous communities who have longstanding understood the limits of natural systems, and in ways of working with the land that recognise what we receive as a gift.

I’m grateful to share this platform with so many people whose work I admire. Change needs all of us, and it needs us to keep learning from one another if we are to create a different future.

One year of The Nature of Fashion. As the book makes its way through the world, I’ve been so grateful for the words of encouragement I have received from readers around the world, and from those who kindly took the time to read it before publication.

For my book anniversary, I thought I’d share a few of the endorsements that have accompanied my book’s journey, from Indigenous Kogui Mamos, high in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada, to craft lovers, botanists, gardeners and rock stars. Thank you to everyone who has read it, shared it, recommended it or taken the time to write about it.

Yesterday I drove out to Goose Meadow Farm in Lancashire for the Ponda BioPuff harvest, watching bulrushes being cut, gathered and processed with the most magnificent Heath Robinson contraption. This site alone has already harvested 5 tonnes this year, with another 2 tonnes finished yesterday. Across Ponda’s sites, that will become around 40 kilometres of wadding. It is truly extraordinary to see how much material can emerge from the fluffy fibres of a single seedhead.

But the material is only part of the story. What makes this collaboration between @ponda.bio, local farmers Cam and Lisa, and @lancashirewildlifetrust so exciting is the idea of making wetlands work for everyone: rewetting peatland, creating habitat and giving farmers a productive reason to keep the land wet rather than draining it.

Thank you, Ponda, for showing me a plant with such extraordinary potential – for fashion, for farmers and most importantly for the wetlands themselves.

We had a fantastic evening at @thelondonlibrary for our final event in July!

Our panel of experts came together for our event: Byte the Book x The London Library: How To Submit and What Happens Next? 📚 We had a wonderful evening of networking and hearing expert insights from our brilliant panel as they shared the different ways aspiring authors can submit their work and what happens after they’ve shared their submissions with agents and publishers.

Last week, we were joined by a panel of experts including our director and founder, @justinesolomons as the chair of our panel and our incredible speakers: Hannah Chukwu (@hannahchukwu) - multi-award-winning Publishing Director at @dialoguepublishing, Scott Pack - publishing polymath, and Julia Silk (@julia_s_reading) - Literary Agent at @greyhoundliteraryagency 💥 Our panel of industry experts demystified the publishing industry, shared advice on the ways writers might share work with the industry, build their author platforms, shared insights into how publishing houses function and offered tips on how our attendees might find the right spaces for their work and connect with agents or publishers.

Birth Power by @birth_ed is officially out in the world!

Megan is a true pioneer whose birth education takes into account the systems we are currently birthing in, rather than pretending we are separate from them.

It’s incredible to think just how many people her work will reach simply because she said ‘fuck it, I’ll make time!’ (lol it was probs more complex than that but you catch my drift).
