I’m bringing The Hardest Part of Schizophrenia Is Spelling Schizophrenia to Book Soup.

But I don’t want to do a regular book signing where I sit down, read a few pages and answer questions.

A lot of this book is about the people who were actually there while I was becoming who I am.

So I’m bringing some of them with me.

@julieseabaugh and @alma.harel will be there, along with a few SPECIAL GUEST who actually lived some of these stories with me.

We’re going to talk about what happened, what I remember, what THEY remember 😂, and the stories behind the stories.

Safe to say it's a good production when one's immediate green room reaction is "Holy sh*t, that was amazi... [begins sobbing uncontrollably]."

Brendan Scannell's @bscan The Abyss at @elysiantheater plunges far deeper than most dare into the worlds we try to control and reimage in our minds when the one outside it grows permanently askew. Mental health, family bonds, big dreams, crushing reality, and grappling with abject powerlessness are hugely vulnerable topics to tackle/laugh at; Scannell ensures the emotional releases land hard and piercingly physical.

UCB Annex, who knew? The three-year old strip-mall sidepiece maintains a required share of clowning ads but is the perfect lab for @glazerboohoohoo's solo MIKE GLAZER SELF-DESTRUCTS, a jam-packed backtrack through a life of extremes. (Enough for two works, in fact.)

A chaotic dad, drugs, dealing, and roller-hockey stardom are at play even before Glazer addresses the 2025 Kanye West/Taylor Swift social storm he's still clearly processing. Particularly within his Midwestern backstory and details that hit hard and fast, Glazer's in-progress show contemplates what it takes for real life to finally feel real.

The Watch List--"Chappelle's Show for Brown People"--was a Comedy Central Motherload sketch original premiering Aug. 31, 2007 from @authormaxbrooks and @deanobeidallah.

The first series to ever showcase all Middle Eastern-American performers including @mazjobrani @neginfarsad @joederosacomedy purposefully arrived in years following 9/11 and media demonization, challenging stereotypes and opening doors to new representation in the comedy industry.

I wasn’t looking to write a memoir.

@julieseabaugh something before I did.

She kept coming back to the idea that there was a bigger story beneath the comedy, the acting, and everything people thought they knew about me.

I kept resisting because I wasn’t interested in writing a celebrity memoir.

Eventually I realized she wasn’t asking me to tell people what I’d done.

She was asking me to tell them how I became who I am.

That conversation became this book.

Thank you, Julie, for believing this story was worth telling.

For years you’ve seen pieces of my story.

On stage.

On screen.

In interviews.

But those were pieces.

This is the first time I’ve told the whole story.

When @julieseabaugh first approached me about writing a book, I wasn’t interested in writing a celebrity memoir. I wanted to write something honest. Something that could hold comedy, faith, family, mental illness, and all the contradictions that make us who we are.
