LOS ANGELES — NOVEMBER 7!!

I’m bringing The Hardest Part of Schizophrenia Is Spelling Schizophrenia to Book Soup.

But I don’t want to do a regular book signing where I sit down, read a few pages and answer questions.

A lot of this book is about the people who were actually there while I was becoming who I am.

So I’m bringing some of them with me.

@julieseabaugh and @alma.harel will be there, along with a few SPECIAL GUEST who actually lived some of these stories with me.

We’re going to talk about what happened, what I remember, what THEY remember 😂, and the stories behind the stories.

I wasn’t looking to write a memoir.

@julieseabaugh something before I did.

She kept coming back to the idea that there was a bigger story beneath the comedy, the acting, and everything people thought they knew about me.

I kept resisting because I wasn’t interested in writing a celebrity memoir.

Eventually I realized she wasn’t asking me to tell people what I’d done.

She was asking me to tell them how I became who I am.

That conversation became this book.

For years you’ve seen pieces of my story.

On stage.

On screen.

In interviews.

But those were pieces.

This is the first time I’ve told the whole story.

When @julieseabaugh first approached me about writing a book, I wasn’t interested in writing a celebrity memoir. I wanted to write something honest. Something that could hold comedy, faith, family, mental illness, and all the contradictions that make us who we are.

Is Book Club Comedy Hour a book club or a comedy show? It’s both!

The comedians are reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and using it as inspiration for their set. The audience is encouraged to read the book too, but don’t worry if you don’t, our Resident Book Summarizer @coreyrittmaster will provide a synopsis at the beginning of the show, so that everyone is on the same page. (See what I did there?)

Tickets are pay-what-you-can and are available at the door, but RVSP so we know how many folks to expect. (Link in bio.) It’d be great if we outgrew the current room we’re in, which we should because HOLY MAGIC, look at this lineup.
