A quick trip to Chicago means you have to maximize your time. Made an effort to see as many of the Abengers as I could. 🤣

Chef Julius Tacadena is bringing the flavors and memories of the Philippines and Hawai‘i to Chicago through Kanin.
Born in the Philippines and raised on Kaua‘i, Julius grew up surrounded by the food and culture that would eventually shape his culinary journey. After moving to Chicago and taking a nontraditional path through nursing and recruiting, he found his way back to food and began turning the flavors of home into something uniquely his own.

From Filipino classics and Hawaiian comfort food to musubi, Spam, longanisa and creative bodega-style dishes, Kanin has become a celebration of Julius’s roots and the food memories that shaped him.

Mahalo to my braddah @chefwonder for inviting us to be a part of the release of his new cookbook, “Ohana Style.”

What stood out most about the book wasn’t just the food, but the story behind it. There’s something special about the culture we come from. Family is everything, your reputation is your currency, and where it’s always about the collective, not the individual.

Thank you to everyone to that showed up to show love to chef and his ohana. For one night, Kanin and SPC felt a little more like home 🤙🏽
