Another one of my visions turned into reality 🌀 so exciting to finally share this piece & to have equipment set-up at home!! I knew for some time now that I wanted this setup to be special and couldn’t fathom the idea of having everything around the house be so intentional and then have DJ gear and cabling just thrown around. It took this long because I didn’t want the bulkiness that came with a traditional booth.

I was on what felt like an *eternal* flight to LA and kept workshopping potential ideas, when I thought, what about something where the support system comes from the top vs the bottom… that’s it, a minimal concrete slab to go with the apartment’s industrial look, hung from the ceiling in our creative area. Easy enough, right?

So I made another shit sketch haha, & called @arcabuild, I knew he’d be the one to help me bring this to life. Surely enough, he landed that plane QUICK and told me I couldn’t rig a piece of concrete from my ceiling 🤣. I was hung up on the idea though. We took some time to sharpen up the design and into production we went, still aiming for a concrete aesthetic. It took a couple of tries to get the material and rods right; the material kept cracking, and the first rods allowed too much swing, but we got it.

Then @nomadsoundsystems and @oneeyedwill found the smallest cutest monitors, crushed the sound installation ensuring all the cables thru the rods for a clean look. Lastly, covering the rods in mirror plexiglass to hide everything and really give that floating effect. Couldn’t have done this without the talented humans that I get to call friends, shoutout to ya’ll.

& there she finally is, in all her levitating glory 🥹🤩 — Needless to ask, but, are we bringing back house parties in 2025?

Self-portrait titled: a girl, her wax and her first furniture piece design✨

Before we moved into our new apartment we had to renovate and put all of our stuff in storage, for a year. I didn’t think I’d miss much but realized how much I missed all of our records and art pieces. There’s something so beautiful and intentional about searching through a collection to find just the vinyl that’s going to shift the mood in a place.

Like the remodeling of our apartment, we have been really conscious of what we want the space to not only look like but also *feel* like; probably why seven months later we still barely have furniture, ha. I knew that for our collection I wanted something special to showcase it. I woke up one morning and just knew exactly what it would be and that it didn’t exist… so I made a shit drawing and sent it to @seisstudioinc knowing he can bring this to life. I knew he’d see what I was intending as I still work on getting better of converting things in my head to tangible explanations lol.

After a few doubtful no’s from welders, we found the one that was up for the challenge. To then figure out the challenge of weight; the weight of a piece strong enough to hold vinyl plus all the vinyl itself (forgot how heavy wax is). Luckily, my trusted friends @nafaconstruction knew just how to solve that. & now, there she is in all her glory. 🤩 by @jumapaa

The first time I came to the French Riviera, I was just a teenager, studying abroad in Nice. This time, I came back for work.

Coming back has felt like being reintroduced to that younger version of myself. The girl who first fell in love with independence, travel, and the beauty of not knowing exactly what came next.

I’ve never really had a plan. I always knew what I loved, but I never knew exactly what shape it would take. So I kept following what made me curious.

Looking back, I always thought I was just figuring it out as I went. Now I’m starting to think maybe curiosity was simply another way of trusting myself.

This trip reminded me to stop long enough to recognize that I’m living things that once existed only as dreams. To remember who I am by remembering everything I’ve already overcome. And to loosen my grip on how I think life is supposed to unfold, because somehow the universe has a way of winking at me when I least expect it.

Qué bonito. Look what happened because I kept saying yes to what made me curious. Only gratitude. 🩵

P.S. How cute (last slide) is 16yr-old baby Juli, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, on her way to class. She had no idea… or maybe she did hehe. ✨🌀 by @jumapaa

Sound School cracked me open in ways I didn’t anticipate.

I arrived thinking I would learn about sound. About instruments, frequencies, facilitation, and how to deepen my relationship with this work. And I did.

But surprisingly, I learned just as much about silence and listening.

As someone who is deeply interested in connection, I’ve always considered myself a curious listener. But the listening I hadn’t realized I had stopped doing was the one within myself.

We learned how to follow sound, build relationships with our instruments, and trust what emerges when we stop trying to force an outcome.

Some days were deeply moving. Some days were really long and really silly. And somewhere in between, something began to soften. I listened with intention to all the things that had been patiently waiting beneath the noise, asking to be heard.

One of my teachers, @mattaniee, shared a reflection that has stayed with me:

“Sound School is the week that feels like one of life’s great philosophical questions: does the caterpillar know it’s about to become a butterfly?”

And I think that’s exactly how I left. Not with all the answers.
Just a little more willing to sit, surrender, tune in, and trust the unfolding.

Gratitude to @the_gong_experience, my teachers, and everyone I had the privilege of sharing this experience with. 🌀💖✨ taken in The Berkshires, MA by @jumapaa

Not sure how we’re almost halfway through the year, but life has been moving at full speed these past 5 months. Looking back, I’m realizing this year has really pushed me to explore my edges without giving me much time to think twice about it. Which, honestly, I’m grateful for.

I’ve always believed in our capacity as humans to be multifaceted and multi-passionate. Somewhere along the way, we’re taught to fragment everything… what we do, what we listen to, what we love — and to believe we have to choose one thing, be one thing. For a long time, I struggled with fully accepting that that has never come naturally to me.

I am an explorer and a student at heart. And the older I get, the more empowered I feel to embody all of my curiosities instead of compartmentalizing them. Because in reality, everything is deeply interconnected. 🌀

This first half of the year has looked like deepening my world of sound, continuing to explore design, reconnecting with teaching on & off the yoga mat, getting back into riding, still finding purpose in my work, creatively producing outside the confines of my full-time job, sitting in ceremony with myself and elders, lots of dancing (always)… and most importantly, learning how to move through it all with more intention and awareness.

No puedo elegir una sola cosa porque mi curiosidad es mucho más grande 🤍 & maybe you don’t have to either. Xo taken in Miami, Florida by @jumapaa
