Stop telling employers you know cybersecurity. Build something that proves it.

Create a SOC lab. Learn Splunk or Sentinel. Investigate security alerts, analyze logs, and document exactly how you reached your conclusion.

Your portfolio should show employers you’ve actually practiced the work.

You’re not SOC-ready just because you passed a certification.

SOC Analysts need to know how to analyze logs, investigate incidents, and detect threats.

Spend Week 1 practicing log analysis with Windows Event Logs and a SIEM. Spend Week 2 triaging alerts and investigating incidents. Spend Week 3 building SPL or KQL queries and practicing threat detection.

Don’t just study cybersecurity. Practice doing the job.

Log Analysis → Incident Response → Threat Detection

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected to lead and train personnel within the Department of War (DoW) as part of the DoDNet Migration Initiative.

DoDNet is part of a major effort to modernize and consolidate Department of Defense IT networks, strengthening cybersecurity, improving efficiency, and creating a more secure, connected infrastructure.

Having the opportunity to help lead this transition, train personnel, and contribute to a mission of this scale is a major professional milestone.

This is what makes GovTech so powerful. You’re not just working in technology. You’re helping modernize the systems that support our nation’s defense.

Excited for what’s ahead! 🇺🇸

You spent 4 years earning a degree, and now you think you need to go back to school to break into tech?

Think again.

Your degree might have more value in cybersecurity than you realize. You don’t have to throw away your degree to start a cybersecurity career.

You need to understand which skills transfer, learn the technical fundamentals, and build hands-on experience.
