i guess summer isn't over until the bean plants say so

usually i cannot wait for autumn but somehow this year i am already grieving the fat hot light of summer now gone
the outrageous blooms exploding with color
the way my body soaks up excess heat like a battery
losing myself in my days - adrift in a Gauguin painting while the brush is still moving

but time keeps on, the seasons have their way
and i must shift too
with other forms of color and light
bringing the riotous taste of summer
with me

♥️ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷

to feel like it was you
there in the picture
sundappled hair, wild -
that was what mattered
all along

and we didn't even know to
be missing this yet
no one could tell us then that things
got lost
and sometimes stolen

what you did feel
as the dragonflies offered their design
for living
was that you were carefree and that was your innocence
and nothing came to tell you that love
did not do otherwise

like a flock of birds leaving the water's edge
like stars tilting twixt into another horizon
we set ourselves
free
into flight
without ever glancing back
at all

and that was our only
and final
regret

🌞 🌊 🌞 🌊🌞 🌊 🌞 🌊 🌞

the sun-sueded weeks flit by on fleet feet running
golden the trusted hours that shimmer through the
tern's banked gliding
these washed hours will live forever as though
spent on no dross but only pure fine
silver
faint in heart no more
we have come home at last to these shining shores
of our own plain discovering
and in this place: the sculpted edges of the
time that binds us
fast
to love's opened door

when no one is looking you can go in as deep as you want

no one can tell that while you are smiling and nodding or tying your shoes or folding sheets still hot from the dryer that you are loving the crap out of this very very moment

you are noticing everything - the frayed fading carpet, the cat hair on your sweats, that someone is overdoing their morning toast, the squabbling birds at the suet cake, the colors of the shifting clouds scudding across a sherbet sky

you see it all - everything - as from the underneath up, shimmering with an earthly radiance

and this love bursting from the center of your being is lighting you like flames

you think you will hit bottom with this, that one day you will scrape rusty edges and that will be that

but you can't
and you never will

the Eternal fills the Now in you
fills you to the shining top
like you fill with coffee
your cup

well i have partly adhered to my plan to completely chill out this summer - to whit, the above chai latte sipped outside - but have also fallen off the proverbial wagon due to launching my new @__c_a_m_i_n_o_ page and really diving deep into the material that i have been working on for a bit and from which a bunch of new offerings will be made available

once i get something in my blood, i'm all GO and so yeah, working a bit harder than i planned to but i am loving every minute of it

life is going to keep throwing things at you

they will seem hostile at first; out to get you
enemies to be defeated or walled off as expediently as possible; lock the door quick - whew

this gets exhausting and depressing
right
until you realize that
not only does that strategy not work

but that all of those things are just
asking you to
dance

dance
no matter how awkwardly

flail if you must

but these things are shaping you
growing you up
expanding you
- or at least
trying to

why not
give them your hand;

say yes

on the heels of this moment will be another moment sometimes barely discernible from the one you're in now and there's a kind of stability in that that is kind to living daily life but there's also a sort of deadliness to it because it gets easy to not notice these moments that sort of melt together into a bit of a time mush and we hurry on to the next hopefully more enticing and engaging thing because that little lapse of time spent noticing what seems to be nothing can seem painfully dull and pointless and we have much much better things to do don't we

and then we stop stopping to notice at all because we figure there's nothing new to see here, nothing noteworthy, nothing to halt the presses for and so we speed on oblivious to the unfolding miracles and outrageous beauty and subtle changes in the air and in the scent of the wind and in the angle of the sun and the soft places inside our hearts and the words we needed so desperately just out of reach again in the back of our mind and wonder why we are drenched with despair and vaulted with loneliness and the kind of deadening detachment nobody wants when it's all right here ready to cure us with slowness and attentiveness and enoughness

and yes, to slow down is risky
you might miss something else, somewhere else
people might think you're a ne'er-do-well
you might make barely enough money to get by in this new richness you've discovered that is filling you so

and to that i say
so be it

i am committing to a summer of soul
courageous listening, jotting, follow-thru &
mulling over

i will be outside by sunrise
trying my hardest to let go of concerns for the future
instead hymning with the birds and the arcing orange cloudscape shimmering above the horizon
and hearing soundless words from the
Holy

i am pledging way more nature
more waves sun dirt blooms slow food
less screens worry rush surface superfluous

i need wind on my face, rain on the roof, green tea at dawn, sunsets with sandy feet, all the woodland conversations, sunflowers and gaudy petunias and dust-raising dirt roads and radical trust

we cannot be the people we need to be in the future if we can't take care of what matters today;
now
and wholeheartedly & with integrity

be your deepest truest exotic self
let Love lead you to the wildest places inside you
and to the most hidden ground of who you Are
let yourself unfold unfurl unwind unroll

this is the time for real living, joyous, messy, true to ourselves and devoted to all good things, widening our circles, loving like a waterfall giving itself over and over

this is one of my favorite photos ever - not just because i love the subject matter but because of what i was doing when i took it

my daughter and i were finishing up an epic road trip to Utah and back and this is a random farm road somewhere in either Texas or Arkansas & our stopping spot for the night and I snapped this right before we locked ourselves in and went to sleep

i want more of this
a lot more of this

i want a whole life of this

and for everything in my life to both support this and be an outflow of it

going to take a bit of a break here as i am really digging deep to understand what to do next and i suspect i cannot see the proverbial forest for the trees

i need to feel my way into the next steps and i want to get there by spending as much time as i can outside, on the beach, early mornings with my coffee, kayaking, gardening, making memories and feeling all the delicious things my senses were created to show me

i will be back soon probably as i always end up missing you all and of course i will check my messages ♥️

are you ready to

do you know how to get lost well
and not worry how fast you'll get found

can you let go of needing quick answers

are you getting better at letting yourself fall apart when you just can't hold it all together any more

can you let go of needing anyone's approval, even, sometimes, your own

can you stay in the suffering until you've learned what is there for you - that gold we know is hiding there

is there something/someone in your life you can radically trust

what do you really, really love

what would it kill your soul to NOT do
