new month = new meetup ✨

get a cutesie drink in a pineapple @drinktropicale, meet new dance friends, and head over to the @raeloftatthebakeryblocks social afterwards 🍍

Tropicale is a special place for our dance community as its original owner, Alfredo Climaco, was also a dancer. He sadly passed in 2021, leaving a hole in our community, but the business is in the hands of his family and something we want to continue supporting. Tropicale was a dream he brought to life and one of his favorite things was to see people come together and enjoy themselves ❤️

look out for our team member, @be_livengood who will be there 👀 taken in Tropicale by @justaskpdx

This past April, Just Ask hosted its first community workshop, “Just Ask & Chat.” There were laughs, tears, hard conversations, and revitalized energy to connect deeper as a community and prioritize safety for all. 🫂

Thank you to everyone who showed up, helped out, and participated during these 5 hours. This day was a sign of investment into changing the landscape of our local dance scene, for better. 🌱

Action items from this day are currently rolling out and we are excited to continue creating spaces for community to organize, chat, and Just Ask in 📣 taken in Portland, Oregon by @justaskpdx

If you’re a community leader in the PDX Latin dance scene please consider joining the “Just Ask: Community Leaders” chat where studio/venue owners, DJs, event organizers, instructors and more will combine efforts in creating a safer Latin dance scene 🫂

This action came as a result of the community leaders discussion that took place during Just Ask & Chat 🗣️

💬 COMMUNITY CHAT 💛

Join us for an evening of connection and conversation as we gather with adult dancers from across the Portland metro area to explore what it means to be in community and how we can prioritize safety to grow stronger together.

This interactive, discussion-based event is for anyone wanting to share, listen, and engage in intentional conversations about the needs of Portland’s dance community and how we can create a more inclusive space for all.

Conversations may touch on experiences of harm and sexual violence. Participants are welcome to engage at whatever level feels right for them.

📅 Sunday, August 2, 2-4pm
📍 Splash Apartments, 875 NE 27th Ave, Portland, OR 97232
✨ Pay what you can ($0–20). No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Our conversation will be facilitated by Alisha (she/her), one of the founders of Just Ask, a local Portland group committed to fostering a safer and more inclusive Latin dance community by addressing safety concerns like sexual violence, promoting accountability, and creating open dialogue. Alisha comes with lived experiences as a dancer, survivor, and community organizer. She has a Masters in Social Work and a deep commitment to community-led healing and accountability.

We hope you’ll join us. 🤍 by @justaskpdx

Today is a day that collides two things Just Ask exists for, dance and sexual violence prevention. Whatever you do and wherever you go, we encourage you to wear denim today to show solidarity with survivors and bring awareness to the issue.👖

Please tag us in your photos and videos, so we can collectively spread the word. 🤍
