POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
THE POLICE KILLED CHRIS. THEN THEY PUT HIM ON TRIAL.

In the court of public opinion, his past became the story - even though police didn’t know who Chris was when they stopped him that night. Officer Martyn Blake shot Chris in the head in 12 seconds.

While Chris’s family & friends were grieving an unimaginable loss, the media & public picked him apart. Race was strategically pushed off the agenda. While everyone was distracted, the police were fighting for to make sure it would become almost impossible to ever hold them to account again ‼️

And it worked - the Government changed the law on police accountability. This impacts all of us.

This Saturday 5 Sep, we turn the focus back. IT’S TIME TO PUT POLICE IMPUNITY ON TRIAL.

Join us to learn what this law change means for you and your family. And stand with a family that should never have to carry this alone.

JOIN US, SAT 5 SEPTEMBER IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE POLICE ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW!

Today, the IOPC announced it is dropping the misconduct proceedings against Martyn Blake for killing Chris Kaba.

This is bigger than one case. The law has already been changed to make it harder to hold police officers professionally accountable.

The police want absolute impunity.

Join us on 5 September, the fourth anniversary of Chris Kaba’s killing - we’re coming together to stand with Chris’s family and demand real police accountability.

WE NEED YOU! Join us for an assembly on the day of the verdict. 7pm @ The Old Bailey! 📢 🖤

Today the judge has finished his summary and the jury is now out. We do not know when the jury will reach their verdict.

We need you to be on standby to join us for an assembly at the central criminal court, the old Bailey, at 7pm on the day of the verdict - which could be any day from now. We will update you, as soon as we know.

There is no time like the present to join the movement for a future where justice and accountability are the norm.

True justice must go beyond the criminal legal system. It must deliver real repair, healing, and lasting transformation.

An inquest is an opportunity to examine the evidence, question those involved and establish the full circumstances surrounding a death.

For families like Chris Kaba’s, this process is vital. Yet the Metropolitan Police Commissioner is resisting its resumption.

Why should families have to fight the very institutions responsible for answering their questions?

ALL EYES ON THE CORONER.

Why must Chris Kaba’s family continue fighting just to get answers about his killing?

How much more should a grieving family have to endure?

The coroner has still not decided IF there will be an inquest. This decision cannot be ignored. Chris’s family deserves a full, independent examination of the circumstances surrounding his death.

ALL EYES ON THE CORONER!

On Saturday 31 October, stand with Chris Kaba’s family and other families affected by deaths in police custody and following police contact at the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) Annual Procession.

On 5 September, we came together to remember Chris Kaba, stand with his family and make it clear that, four years on, we have not forgotten.

Chris’s father, Prosper, shared:
“As Chris’s dad, it’s too much for me. To be the leader of a family and to lose one of the members of the family.”

On 31 October, we come together again.

Join us for the UFFC Annual Procession.

For nearly 30 years, the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) has united families who have lost loved ones following contact with police or in state custody, fighting for truth, justice and accountability.

🚨 RESUME THE INQUEST INTO CHRIS KABA’S DEATH

Four years after Chris was fatally shot by a Met Police officer, a full inquest has still not taken place.

Why is the Met resisting full public scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding Chris’s death? A criminal trial is not a substitute for an inquest.

Chris’s family deserves answers. The use of lethal police force must be subject to full public scrutiny.

RESUME THE INQUEST.

🚨 RESUME THE INQUEST INTO CHRIS KABA’S DEATH

Last week,1 October, a pre-inquest review hearing took place to consider whether the inquest into Chris Kaba’s death should finally be resumed. The Coroner must make a decision in the coming weeks.

Chris was fatally shot by Metropolitan Police firearms officer Martyn Blake on 5 September 2022. The inquest into his death was opened the following month and adjourned.

More than four years later, a full inquest has still not taken place.

At the hearing, Matthew Ryder KC, representing Chris’s family, made clear that the criminal trial was “not a substitute for an inquest” and said Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley is “positively resisting” the resumption of the inquest.

Why is the Commissioner resisting a process that could examine the full circumstances surrounding Chris’s death?

This matters far beyond one family.

When someone dies after the use of lethal force by the state, there must be a process capable of fully examining what happened - including the actions and decisions that led to that death. If that scrutiny can be resisted or indefinitely delayed, it affects the accountability protections available to every one of us.

A criminal trial cannot replace an inquest. An inquest can examine wider circumstances and evidence beyond the question determined at a criminal trial.

Chris’s family has already waited more than four years for this process. They should not have to wait any longer.

The Met must stop resisting the resumption of the inquest.

Chris’s family deserves truth.
They deserve answers.
And all of us deserve a system in which the use of lethal state power is subject to full public scrutiny.

RESUME THE INQUEST.

🚨 WILL THERE BE A FULL INQUEST INTO CHRIS KABA’S DEATH?

Tomorrow, Thu 1 Oct, the Coroner’s Court will hear legal arguments on whether the inquest into Chris’s death should go ahead.

Chris was shot and killed by Metropolitan Police firearms officer Martyn Blake on 5 September 2022. He was 24 years old and unarmed. Police did not know who Chris was when he was stopped.

Four years later, we believe important facts and circumstances surrounding Chris’s death have still not been fully examined. That is why a full inquest matters.

An inquest can examine the wider circumstances surrounding Chris’s death, including the police actions and decisions leading up to the moment he was killed, and key issues that were not determined through the criminal legal process.

Chris’s family deserves answers. The public deserves transparency. His death deserves full scrutiny.

👀 All eyes on the hearing!

Please share and help make sure this receives the public attention it deserves.

We came together as a community to remember Chris Kaba, stand with his family and show that four years on, we have not forgotten! We exposed what the recent changes to police accountability mean for all of us and how we fight back against police impunity, together.

THANK YOU to everyone who showed up, spoke, performed, volunteered, supported and brought someone with you. We held each other, we honoured Chris and we strengthened our collective commitment to keep fighting for justice. This is what community looks like.

When the government changes the law to make it harder to hold police accountable our response must be collective. We organise. We mobilise. We keep fighting for justice. JOIN US ‼️🖤

Rest in power, Chris Kaba. 🕊️
