October postcards from a moody Fall day in Telluride

While I only managed to get down to this beautiful mountain town for a quick jaunt this Fall (roughly half a day), getting to experience it in the gloomy weather that October brings was quite a treat.

While the rain was intermittently coming down, the streets were much calmer, and you could feel the embrace for the onset Winter in the people of the town and in the incredible mountains that surround it.

The conditions made it where shooting the mountains was a game of patience, as they would be out on full display one minute, and socked behind the next oncoming rain clouds the next.

But it also made it incredibly rewarding, and made me look elsewhere around the town for compositions as well that I hadn’t explored before.

When Winter Meets Fall in Colorado 🍁

The most beautiful scenes I’ve been fortunate enough to capture in Colorado hands down have been from these days where Winter preemptively arrives in the mountains to intermingle with the colors of the autumn season.

The magic of the clash of golden leaves sprinkled on a fresh coat of white snow is something I believe everyone that calls Colorado home needs to experience at least once.

Unfortunately conditions haven’t been as great for it this year, but that’s apart of what makes it so special when it does occur 👌🏼

Moments from a moody autumn morning in one of the most quaint mountain towns of Colorado 🍁

This was one of my favorite memories from last Fall, waking up to a slight drizzle of rain and gloom over the lake.

Followed by a a morning French press in the camper and then a slow cruise down this beautiful stretch of highway in the San Juan mountains covered in aspen groves, until turning into the small, unincorporated town of Ophir.

Tucked into a small valley between some of the most iconic mountains in the state, Ophir sits just over the hill from Telluride.

But it offers a completely different experience — one with true peace and solitude as I roamed the streets of the town without a single other soul around.

With less than 200 people calling this valley home, it’s about as perfect as a small mountain town gets in my opinion, with beautiful mountain views and potential adventures in every direction.

So many people visit Telluride each Fall, which it undoubtedly deserves. But if you want a break from the madness and a true glimpse into quaint, Fall mountain living in the Rockies, you’ll certainly find it here.

And just like that, it’s October once again 🍁❄️

The beautiful colors of Fall are at their finest throughout the Colorado mountains, but Winter looms and begins to make its slow and subtle arrival.

These are the most magical days that can be found in the Rockies. Waking up to the valley floors and distant peaks blanketed in snow, effortlessly blending with the golden hues of the aspens holding on to the last of their leaves.

There’s truly no site that compares in my mind. And I’m beyond excited for the days like these to come.

Days filled with slowing down and just being witness to nature putting on this beautiful show as it makes the transition from Autumn into Winter.

Ah, September, how I’ve missed you.

The arrival of muggy nights and crisp mountain mornings.

The greens of Summer fading into beautiful hues of gold.

And most importantly, this undeniable, unique feeling of calmness that envelops.

It’s a brief yet beautiful moment of transition, when the landscapes of the Rocky Mountains put on an exquisite show.

And the nature is ever changing, so every drive into the mountains is just a little different than the last.

For now, I’m enjoying the beginning — the subtle shift that invites you to slow down and take in the little moments of change.

This will be my first September away from these views for some international travel, but looking back through the collections I’ve been able to capture over my many years of photographing Colorado Fall will never cease to make me feel so blessed to call this state home.

I hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for plenty more to come 🙏🏼

Scenes from a Western Weekend Getaway in Bozeman with @fieldandstreamlodges

This Montana mountain town certainly is no secret, but it does still offer a true and unique taste of the American West at its finest.

It’s where a quaint, charming downtown filled with modern boutiques, bistros, and bars effortlessly intertwines with saloons, rodeos, and the rustic, gritty history and lifestyle of this valley for a truly unique culture.

Summer scenes from Rocky Mountain lake life in Grand Lake, Colorado

Tucked in the Middle Park basin, just outside the West entrance to National Park sits this beautiful, laid back mountain town.

It’s always been a special place to me, as I made many fond memories here in my first few years living in Colorado, making the drive through @rockynps over Trail Ridge road and stopping here to relax after long hikes.

Circling back now years later, it still holds onto that same charm it had then, but with even more things to do around the town as it has grown.

I still think out of all the Colorado mountain towns, this one is close to the top of my list of where I’d love to call home someday. But for now, it’s certainly still a joy to visit and get a taste of lake life in the mountains.

Postcard scenes from Summer days in the Utah desert

A place with desolate yet diverse nature that always delivers as a place of not just endless possibilities for adventure, but also solitude and reprieve to collect one’s thoughts and reflect.

It’s a place that will always attract me and call me to it at the times I need it most.

I hope we’re able to protect it from the grimy hands of capitalism that don’t see this value it holds so that more people can continue to connect to it, experience its magnitude, along with the humbling yet calming feeling it provides.

Some of the finest nature and landscapes to be found in the country are in this state without a doubt.

And it’s incredibly sad seeing so much of it go up in flames year after year and the entire region be filled with smoke.

My heart goes out to all those up in the PNW currently dealing with these wildfires – especially those working hard to protect these beautiful places.

Your reminder that Summer goes by fast, so get out and do cool stuff with your friends.

And also to take pictures of your friends when you do.

This is something I constantly kick myself in the butt for, as despite how many incredible memories I’ve made with friends experiencing Summer in Colorado over the years, I spent many of them too focused on “getting the shot” and not capturing the memory of the experience with the people who joined me on the adventure, whatever it may have been.

I’ve been making a conscious effort to prioritize capturing more of life’s little moments with the people I care about, and it’s already made my catalog that much more precious to me.

I hope you learn from my mistakes and don’t just capture the ‘best of the best’, but all the in between moments that make up life and at the end of the day, are what really matter the most and make the memories what they are.

Anyways, I hope you’re all having a good Summer ✌🏼
Just wanted to remind both you all and myself that even if life can get busy, make some time to get outside and do things with the people you love.
