Gone with the Wind.
A tribute to Folkert Brouwers
A friend, brother, father, husband, and a true windsurf icon.
At one of the most beautiful places on earth, and one of his favorite places to windsurf, he had his final session.
After collapsing on the waterside at Swartriet, he passed away later in the hospital in Vredenburg, South Africa, on 29 January 2026.
At Swartriet, we said goodbye with heavy hearts.
He will be missed every single day
but never forgotten.

On holiday with my family on Tenerife and I joined the Masters competition of the @world_wave_tour A great experience, super happy with all the support here and back home. @dieterb35 thx for your help during the heats!

I had no expectations but after a though first half year of 2026 just wanted to sail at least one good heat 🤍. That happened, allthough the hard conditions, 3.3 all day 💪🏻🔥 Greatfull I could share this with my family ❤️🍀

And I ended 11th out of 17 riders… not bad at all 🤪 most important I had great fun 🤩 taken in Playa Cabezo El Medano by @justinvanderloo

Finally, some proper surf again! 🌊
Back in El Médano, Tenerife, and the first few days have already delivered. Good wind, fun waves, and some seriously good sessions.
The most memorable sessions here are always the evening ones. That golden light, fewer people on the water, and even flying fish showing up while we surf… it doesn’t get much better.
The only problem? Justin and I were both in the water, so there was nobody behind the camera.

One Last Perfect Session
Swartriet, South Africa.
Already two months ago.
A place and a day that will always stay with us.

Wind and perfect waves.
Friends on the water, doing what we love most.

What started as the “holiday within the holiday”
became a day that will stay with us forever.

Elands Bay, South Africa 🇿🇦
Second windsurf session of our 2026 trip.
A powerful day on the water with fun conditions and an incredible group of friends.

Our buddy Justin injured his knee that day, which is exactly why he ended up behind the camera capturing these moments.

This session also became one of the last times our good friend Folkert Brouwers was filmed windsurfing before he sadly passed away.
What started as a fun day on the water has turned into memories we will cherish forever.
