What a loved filled celebration that I had the honor to document for two of the kindest and most compassionate people I know!

Royce and Jill have a beautiful and beloved community that filled Kitty Dare yesterday to support and celebrate their love and it was fun to finally get to meet so many faces that I’ve come to know seeing Royce’s own documentary work photographing loved ones, friend and family and the greater Atlanta community.

Jill became one of my first friends in Atlanta when I moved to the area over 9 years ago and we used to play music together. Royce and I got to know each other through brushing shoulders and working alongside each other as photographers so when they asked me to photo their wedding, I had to break my “no weddings” rule and so my best to capture their special day.

On this chilly day, I’m still feeling warm and fuzzy from all the love shared through big hugs and kisses and the sweet toasts of their friends and families.

As I continue to look through and edit photos from the wedding, I’ve see the influences and inspirations that are drawn from Royce’s own photography which makes these photos all the more sentimental to me.

Royce and Jill, I love you two and all of your family and friends. Thanks for including me in yesterday’s festivities! by @justmatt

In 2000, women were 4% of the United States veteran population. Federal government forecasts project their numbers to hit nearly 20% by 2040. Georgia is at the center of this demographic shift. The state has among the most women veterans in the nation.

It’s a population at high risk for posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD, research from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs shows.

The health risks are even higher for veterans during pregnancy and postpartum -- PTSD increases the chances for potentially life-threatening complications, including preterm birth, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, according to the VA.

Women veterans are also many times more likely than men to have experienced military sexual trauma during their service, VA data show.

Advocates behind a monthly peer group at American Legion Post 66 are working to connect women veterans living with trauma to medical and mental health services, educational resources and emotional support.

And, organizers say part of its magic is bringing together veterans of all ages, backgrounds and military service histories.
