The man who raped and sexually abused me over years in Singapore is named Tan Han Pei Bane and he has been trying to silence me out of shame. I came forward with my story to break the taboo of being a victim and to let people know what happens at home doesn’t need to stay hidden. I didn’t think it would get the traction it did, but I guess more people out there resonate with this uncommon story than I ever imagined. And there is no life that you should envy without knowing the details. Sexual Assault Awareness Month gave me an opportunity to open up about something that haunted me and diverted my life for years, especially knowing that we live in a society that protects abusers. Thank you for sharing your own stories with me, and know that we are not alone in our struggles, wounds, and rawness. by @jvki

Sorry haven’t been around, been having epiphanies. It took some time to digest turning 30 because it felt wrong that I survived everything that has destroyed me. The last decade has been absolutely charming AND tedious, and despite the frightening reality of the universe, I figured that the human spirit is somewhat unbreakable. I questioned everything that I’ve accomplished and came to the conclusion that it all had to happen for me to be here in this very moment. The acceptance of impermanence, and the fact that not everyone has a family or a decent start to life, and sometimes that person is you. And it’s freeing to know your place, that you don’t have to be “normal”.Because you aren’t. Here’s to building another life. I did it once, twice, and I can do it again. by @jvki
