So proud of my friend @kelsmesa on the opening of her play Freddie:a girl.

Kelsey is a super talented Multi-hyphenate artist, director, playwright, producer and administrator.

Last night her talents were on full display as she took real life events; in this case teenage Dutch girls who were recruited by the Dutch resistance to kill Nazis during WWII. These girls did drive bys on their bikes--- so ride bys--.

This play asks us to grapple with how we hold onto our humanity during war. Who is called on to shoulder the burden of war and how do we claw our way back to life after mass death.

It was a whirlwind weekend. I got to see @kelsmesa & @k.a.creates for a yummy brunch at Ámbar.

Then celebrated @candigirl04 with @lu for National Auntie Day. Candi was there throughout my pregnancy, for both of my childerns entrances into the world, and for every part of their lives since. She ain't new to this, She's true to this. And I'm so lucky to be her sista friend and for my kids to call her Tia.

Sunday was an all day friend hang with one of my fav people. We caught an 8am showing on The Odessy on IMAX, ( spoiler alert the screenplay isn't good) and caught a delicioso brunch at El Cielo.

My mom and nieces took my daughter to try on quinceanera dresses and sent me photos... Love the way she's beaming in the pics, she deserves to be a princessa (for a day).

And Luna Belle sat patiently on a public bench and waited for me to grab food out of a restaurant.

All in all a really wonderful weekend. 🥰💛💃🏽 by @k.a.creates

I’m a day late but it’s never too late to celebrate the birthday of one my favorite humans. The wonderful, beautiful, talented, incredible Anaïs just turned 20 yesterday! Happy Happy Birthday! May this rotation around the sun be one of adventure, joy, learning, and love in all the best ways possible. I love your courage, your determination, your kindness, your creativity and your passion. This kid keeps growing in delightful ways. But the core of him is the same only brighter, richer, more confident. He’s sweet and punny, intelligent and curious, handsome and knows it the right amount, caring and easy to find joy with. Also, his growing love for all things film means we’ve found a shared passion again! Anyhow, here’s to the growing adult and really cool guy we love so much! It’s been 8 years. October 17 you left us suddenly and life has never been the same. Grief upon grief has been this year so far and I always feel like I’m holding my breathe between your birthday and this day. It was a sucker punch that has never quite gone away. And now that Dad has joined you too, and auntie and uncle and other friends this year, I feel today anew, like it all just happened. So, to get through today I am forcing myself not to think about how there haven’t been any new photos together for so long, but that the ones I have are usually of you and I laughing or being goofy together. I thank God for the fun we found together. So, today I’m going to focus on joy and how my grief can be used to share that joy with others. And also, I might cry a little too. I miss you mom. The world is a scarier, harder place without you and Dad in it. by @k.a.creates

Happy anniversary to my mom and dad who would’ve been married 55 years today. Don’t have any other words to say today. I do remember the last time you were able to celebrate their anniversary with them together and surprise them. I am grateful that we had the fore thought to do that while they were both here together. As always I am grateful for the amazing parents and grandparents they were and all they did together to pave the way for the lives we are able to live today. I marvel in retrospect at how committed they truly were to each other (with lots of ups and downs). But really it’s how they weathered those storms and still came out on the other side in agreement of how they would proceed together. by @k.a.creates

Julius X opened at The Folger! I'm very grateful to have made my DC theater debut under the leadership of Karen Ann Daniels.

I was captivated by Brandon's performance in
R&J. I remember I ran up to Artistic Director Karen Ann after the show ended and was like he is my Julius!! Please introduce me!!

I had to play it cool during introductions but man did I want Brandon to fall in love with the script and say yes.

What I don't think people know is truly great actors are generous people not just in their craft but in their everyday lives. Brandon is as thoughtful as he is generous. I could not imagine any other actor in this role.

I will forever by grateful that he said yes. 😎😀

We are moving through our first day of tech today. I'm so excited about the reception this show is getting. Come on out and see our show y'all!

Happy Birthday Mommy! I hope you and Dad are dancing to Mint Julep together. It’s funny I get to be in London for a few days and being here inevitably makes me feel your presence in such a profound way. I feel like I’m walking these streets with you. Seeing life through your eyes, only now I’m also experiencing it with your granddaughter too. It can’t be a coincidence that we’re here today of all days. It’s your birthday and the joy I have this year is in imagining the reunion between you and Dad, you and Auntie Islyn, between Dad and Uncle Fred. I also picture you watching over us. I leave here tomorrow and it makes sense to me that you will be keeping a good eye on miss thang. Maybe you even lured her here? Ha! She’s going to be great because courage and compassion are her strengths, just like you. We miss you and we love you always. That first photo I see the young nurse newly arrived —windrushed from the Caribbean to London. Excited, scared, but determined to make it work. This year will go down as one of the hardest years of my life. There are so many layers to it all but there have always been silver linings. Today, as I ride in a taxi around London, I’m thinking about my blessings. And one of the greatest of these has been the time spent with @condo_ana , my gorgeous, creative, intellectual, passionate, hard-working niece. She’s been my roommate for the last two summers, but this one was different. This summer I needed her, last summer she needed me. We are pals, friends, and family all rolled into one. She’s my magical being - always keeping life moving. I can’t wait to see what she builds and learns in this next few years. I am blessed her parents and she allow me to be part of her story. It fills me in ways nothing else could. She’s brave, determined, focused, and committed to exploring life her way. And she’s not afraid to take leaps of faith and do the work needed to keep her hope alive even in the face of uncertainty. I can’t say enough about her. Good job @lisaeugennie and @markcondonjryahoocom. And @achillesdc8 , you know what I’m talking about - miss thang has always been her own amazing person. You two are lucky to have each other.
