POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Year three presenting at ATK9 has come to a close. On a personal note there were several moments of great encouragement and affirmation. Our class wasn’t high speed low drag by any means. However, the skills developed allow you to move forward with confidence. All our classes were full. Full of students who appeared to want to be there. To those of you who pulled me aside with kind words they were much appreciated. On top of all the good work and networking I got to co-instructor with my good friend and podcast cohost Rich Hardin @workingdogdepot.

Getting ready to trek through the woods. Pretending to be a bad guy trying to elude arrest or an elderly person lost in the woods. You pick. I suppose the latter is more likely. The dogs don’t care either way.

“Bark up drill” from my buddy @zane_dogs. No fancy equipment, no cueing the dog. The whip is just to annoy the dog. The dogs forward aggression brings me to my feet and makes me run away. You can see dog #2 get stronger and more serious as I got to my feet. Recorded with Oakley Meta glasses.

I met the two gentlemen standing beside me many moons ago. To say they had a profound effect on me and my overall philosophy as it relates to training police dogs is a huge understatement. They have impacted the industry in a tremendous way. It’s always great to reconnect.

Many thanks to this 20 year old 5’2” dynamo who decoyed for me all week. Not only did she not grumble she brought energy and enthusiasm to every rep. I’d work with her anytime!

To be considered a peer among these literal giants in the K9 industry is truly humbling and mind boggling. They have done more to further growth and professionalism in the industry than you can possibly imagine. Thanks again for inviting me to the 2026 Western States K9 conference in Reno NV.

Heavy morning with a quick visit to CrossFit of Shelby. Some kind folks there did a memorial workout in honor of Tim. They accepted donations which, are to go to the SPD K9 Unit. Following was the tenth anniversary memorial for our dearly departed friend Timothy Brackeen. A flood of emotions came rushing back. It was great seeing Tim’s family. He left an indelible mark on so many of us. We shall meet again my friend.

Mango chicken curry add broccoli per the wife’s request. Happy wife happy life. It was fun to make. I feel like it lacked some depth of flavor. I’m not sure what to add? My gut tells me perhaps a little cayenne pepper? It could just need a better quality curry powder. I’d make it again.

Orange honey mustard salmon. I added it to a bowl of basmati rice, smoked sausage and mangos.
