Popped my Substack cherry.

'I’m spiraling right now please I need you.’ The words glared back at me from the screen, furious that I had even typed them to begin with, and then angrier that I had the audacity to press send. I gazed at them, hoping to see ‘typing’ pop up next to his name, but, nothing. I curled into myself, pulled the covers over my head and closed my eyes, hoping that I would somehow manage to fall asleep and find refuge in the astral.'

Today marks one year since the death of my Papa. I've decided that this poem needs to be on this version of my feed. He wrote this in 1978, at the tender age of 22.

Resolution

One day I shall walk ahead
Away from all the self-pervading thoughts
that color my actions and reactions red
and conquers the battles so selfishly fought
The persons I love
will be showered with love, showing
I care and have no desire to cause pain.
The soiled garments will be thrown off
and I shall play free as a child in
The infinite playground of
your presence, Oh Lord!

A core memory that I have is of my Papa's smile as he held me for the first time when I was born. The unconditional love that I felt then is the love that has carried me through my life thus far and continues to carry me even after his death.
