🛸 Area 67 is up and running at @cinekidfestival in Amsterdam!

This strike-a-pose guessing game was developed last year by second year students @audreyfleur.ch @__yan___________ and Tijmen during our recurring collaboration with Cinekid's MediaLab ✨

Anthony Faramelli will become Head of the Interactive/Media/Design (IMD) department on 1 July 2026, succeeding Janine Huizenga, who has led the department since 2017. Anthony Faramelli brings a combination of academic research, professional practice and interdisciplinary experience to the role. ⁠
⁠
Anthony was drawn to KABK by its international outlook and the department's critical, interdisciplinary approach. "All one has do to see how interesting the IMD programme is to look through the archive of previous graduation shows. I have seen so many thought-provoking, impactful, and intellectually rich graduation projects.”⁠
⁠
As Head of IMD, Anthony aims to build on the department's strong foundation while supporting students in developing new forms of critical and creative practice. “Aesthetic practices are also collaborative and dialogical, forcing us to think and do from other positions. We are living through a time of uncertainty, shaped by crises ranging from war and displacement to economic insecurity and climate collapse. Artists and designers have an essential role in helping us imagine alternative futures."⁠

Snippets of tests and process of our client assignment with @cinekidfestival 👾

Every year, students from I/M/D's 2nd year collaborate with the Medialab at Cinekid on the production of interactive projects for an audience of kids.

The processes welcome new research and critique in interaction design: what goes in the making of an interactive experience for a younger generation, especially in an age where algorithms are built to isolate and individualise?

This Thursday, like every year, the students present their results to an actual jury of kids, who will elect the work to be presented at the next Cinekid festival 🧑🏻‍⚖️

🍾 Tuesday and Wednesday are the last moments to view American in Paris in Amare 🍾

The project is an immersive audiovisual rendition of Gershwin's symphonic poem, recontextualised by Art of Sound @koninklijkconservatorium and I/M/D @royalacademyofart.thehague, in collaboration with @residentieorkest

The resulting installation opened on May 9th and is visible until May 20th in the public area of @amaredenhaag

In April, we got to learn about the environments of The Hague during a Residency on "Aqueous Ecologies" 🌊

Our journey started with a bike tour to the dunes which are essential to filtering the city's drinking water🚴🚿

Thanks @royalacademyofart.thehague for hosting us!

The Residency was part of EcoSenda, a collaborative Research Project between @turkuamk @royalacademyofart.thehague @eka_estonian_academy_of_arts @kunsthochschulefuermedien , which aims to introduce Ecosensibility into fine-art teaching and is co-funded by the EU. by @kabkimd
