Extremely grateful to punch my tag on this beautiful backcountry bull.

It was one of the quietest Septembers I’ve had—elk were completely silent during this last week of hunting. Never heard a single bugle. I knew I’d have to put the miles in, spot one, then put the sneak on.

I was solo and spotted a bull feeding on the edge of a meadow, so I started working in to get a better look. On my way over, I accidentally jumped a herd I thought only had cows and ended up in a 45-minute stare-down with one before the group finally moved off.

I took a step back, looked through the trees, and spotted a bull I hadn’t noticed was with the herd—it was the herd bull. He stopped about 120 yards out, behind a single thick jack pine, and I made a play while the cows fed behind some other trees just in front of him.

Working my way through the open meadow with no cover, I quickly walked straight at the bull and closed the distance to about 80 yards.

He stepped out, and I came to full draw, but having left my rangefinder at camp, I didn’t feel confident I had the yardage right. I let down and told myself I needed to get closer if I wanted a better chance at this bull.

I slipped in 20 yards tighter while he was feeding with his head down, looking away from me. He turned broadside and started working toward the patch of trees his cows were in. I dialed to 60 yards and drew. Gave a soft cow call—he stopped and looked my way, just long enough to settle the pin and let it fly. He ran about 80 yards and piled up.

Huge thanks to @jimmeyjam100 and the crew who helped pack him out of one hell of a hole. Couldn’t have done it without them.

Ive hoped of adding a drop tine antler to the keeper pile! Always wondered if it would ever happen.

Just after finding my elk set not 5 yards away was this crazy antler. Could not believe what I was looking at.

Found this dead head a few years back. Never posted about it so thought I’d throw it back for #superbull Sunday.

It’s fun looking back at old pictures and remembering good memories on the mountain with even better people. by @kade_cleverley

This set marks the 6th year of sheds I’ve picked up off the buck I called Gladius. These are his antlers from this spring.

He was killed this year… When I saw the post, I instantly knew it was him. My heart sank so deep into my stomach. I couldn’t even believe it.

I picked up my first side off this buck in 2020. At the time, he was just a ā€œtiny 4-point.ā€ Never imagined he’d turn into what every big buck hunter dreams of. Seeing him go from a basket 4 point to a giant is pretty unreal!

I documented everything and I’ll put together an epic video! I’ll keep it private and show close family and friends I’ve decided. Too many people trying to pin point spots these days.

From what I understand, I was the only one who knew he existed until this year. Crazy that a buck of that caliber could stay hidden for so long. It was pretty neat to play such a small part of this bucks story.

I really felt like I had him to myself. That’s pretty unheard of these days. The story didn’t exactly go how I was hoping, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.

I want to congratulate @idaho_jeff74 on killing an absolute once in a lifetime deer! After hearing his story I’m glad the buck went to him. Just a DIY hunter who worked his butt off. No paid b.s, not tipped off in anyway, just the old school way of hunting.

I’ve never quite had the itch to go chase big mule deer like I do now! I’ve got some unfinished business and can’t wait until one day I can outsmart an old gnarly mule deer in the high country! by @kade_cleverley

Finally got in contact with a biologist who was able to tell me data they got from this bear. Turns out this bear was 16 years! This personally is my oldest bear to date. Pretty cool stuff!

What’s the oldest bear you’ve killed or heard of being killed? I’m interested to know
