Kaho Yabiku (Okinawa, Japan, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin) schafft vor dem Hintergrund ihrer Erfahrung als Ledermacherin Skulpturen und Installationen aus Lederresten. Durch Kreise und Kugeln erforscht sie die Beziehungen zwischen Natur, Tieren und Menschen.

The circle has no beginning and no end.
Within this form, I see an endless cycle of life.
Humans, cows, and nature are not separate beings, but live within the same flow, connected to one another. The leather offcuts generated through industrial production were assembled into a patchwork, with a total weight of approximately 25 kg. The hide of a single cow has a surface area far larger than that of the human body. One day, around eleven cows suddenly ran toward me at the same time. In that moment, for the first time, I felt that I might be eaten myself, and my legs began to tremble. For a brief moment, the relationship between human and cow was reversed — a relationship in which humans control, use, and occasionally eat cows. Our lives are always made possible through the sacrifice of others. Through the circle and leather, I look at these traces. by @kahoyabiku
