Kaho Yabiku

Mooooooooooo

The circle has no beginning and no end.
Within this form, I see an endless cycle of life.
Humans, cows, and nature are not separate beings, but live within the same flow, connected to one another. The leather offcuts generated through industrial production were assembled into a patchwork, with a total weight of approximately 25 kg. The hide of a single cow has a surface area far larger than that of the human body. One day, around eleven cows suddenly ran toward me at the same time. In that moment, for the first time, I felt that I might be eaten myself, and my legs began to tremble. For a brief moment, the relationship between human and cow was reversed — a relationship in which humans control, use, and occasionally eat cows. Our lives are always made possible through the sacrifice of others. Through the circle and leather, I look at these traces.

I would like to invite you to my first upcoming exhibition to explore my newest project!
Soft Commons
Textile Practices and Performances at Forschungscampus Dahlem
10.–13. September 2026

How Can Material Become Relation?
Soft Commons brings together artistic positions that understand textiles as social infrastructures.

Installations, material experiments, archives, interventions, and performances explore how materials can foster relationships, enable forms of community, and activate public space. At the heart of the exhibition is commoning—the collective production of knowledge, care, and agency through textile practice.

Situated at the intersection of material experimentation, artistic research, and social practice, Soft Commons opens up new perspectives on contemporary textile design and makes textiles tangible as active agents of societal transformation.

The exhibition is curated by Essi Johanna Glomb and Katrin Steiger and is a collaboration between the Textile and Material Design Department at weißensee academy of art berlin and Forschungscampus Dahlem. It coincides with Berlin Art Week and is part of the CURRENTS. Design in Berlin festival as well as the 80th anniversary programme of weißensee academy of art berlin, 80 Years.

We warmly invite you to join us for the exhibition’s varied accompanying programme. Performances by the participating artists will take place throughout the exhibition period. Curator-led tours will be held on Friday and Saturday at 4 pm and on Sunday at 2 pm.

The programme culminates in the finissage on Sunday from 5–7 pm with
‚What’s the Matter…? Experiencing Taste Through a Collective Performance‘.
Together with the participating artists, the curators invite you to experience taste through a collective performance exploring the interplay of flavour, texture, and memory. For the performative finissage dinner, please RSVP by email at essi.glomb@kh-berlin.de.

For MAZUHA, I will be presenting a sound installation built from drone soundscapes and shifting ambient textures. An environment to step inside.

MAZUHA — Group Exhibition & Publication Launch

MAZUHA began as a solitary gesture by Shuto Kitagawa,
exploring transformation as an unstable and shifting state.
For this exhibition, MAZUHA expands beyond a singular voice.

It becomes a shared space where multiple perspectives meet.

Shuto Kitagawa, STAANA, Ohii Katya, and Kaho Yabiku
enter this space with their own reflections and contradictions.

MAZUHA is not defined by one meaning.
It emerges through the presence of others.
