I haven't written a review in a long time but this game is so good to pass up that I feel that it hasn't given enough spotlight since it came out a few years ago - and I've been obsessing over how good it is! If you enjoyed The Stanley Parable and Doki Doki Literature Club, you will want to play this game!

Slay the Princess is a story-rich visual novel that features eldritch horror and romantic elements with brilliantly illustrated artwork, vibrant music, emotionally charged voice acting, along with thought-provoking writing.

The artwork is all hand-drawn in a storybook style in a seemingly bleak grayscale that brings out the more vibrant crescendos of the story as you progress through the game.

The music ranges from highlighting pangs of heartbreak to adjoining thrilling events when certain choices the player makes goes awry. Nevertheless, it is worth listening to!

Without getting into too much spoiler territory, life and death being the central theme of the narrative, the game pulls no punches in its horror elements so sensitive players be warned! Certain paths in the story include blood and gore.

A lot of thought went into the writing which I cannot imagine experiencing without its voice talent and how the emotional depth can be felt in its characters - and just a meager duo of character(s) no less - they really give the characters life even though one of them is a disembodied voice. Level of trust can't can't be perceived through words alone so listening to someone's voice and how they speak can really change the mood of a sentence and I think the game is really successful in that regard.

This is a love story. And it is not one to be missed! Although it is a short game that can be completed within a few hours, replaying it is very well worth it. Before I knew it, I was absolutely drawn into its world and my eyes would well up with tears in its beautiful tender moments.
