Who is your “she”? What’s her name? 👇🏾

Sometimes I write her before I can be her. I’ve been doing this for years.

I know I can appear very confident and secure. And I am. But confidence doesn’t mean there aren’t things that still scare the shit out of me.

Turns out, there’s psychology behind part of what I’ve been doing. It’s called self-distancing—using third-person language can give us a little distance from our emotions and help us reflect on them.

I didn’t know the term. I just knew sometimes “she” could imagine possibilities that “I” was still afraid of.

So I let her go first.

That’s part of where Life After Fvk It comes from.

Maybe she’s fictional. Maybe she’s you. Maybe she’s someone you’re still becoming.

Loss can be a hard place to land.🙏🏽

I wasn’t looking for a new chapter.

I was looking for a little joy.

I am grieving. Being a caregiver is hard. One of the things grief keeps teaching me is that time is far too precious to keep postponing the things that make us feel alive.

So I started creating.

Writing again. Making things. Dreaming up women and giving them stories.

And somewhere in the doing, something began to shift.

I didn’t have a grand reinvention plan. I didn’t wake up one morning and decide to become somebody new.

I followed the joy.

And eventually, I realized it was leading me somewhere.

Maybe that’s what I want Kairos Full Bloom—and Life After Fvk It—to remind women 40+:

You don’t need everyone to understand why something needs to change.

You don’t owe anyone a perfectly packaged explanation for wanting something different.

And you certainly don’t need permission.

Maybe your thing is big. Maybe it’s tiny. Maybe you’re beginning something. Maybe you’re finally ending something. Maybe you’re returning to a part of yourself you’ve missed.

Whatever it is—

Fight for your joy.

Go all in.

Because this life is yours. And your time is precious.

I’m still becoming, too.

Yemaya’s Story: Blue Moon Rising (excerpt)

He looked up when she entered the cafe, not with the hurried appraisal she had grown used to, but with recognition.

“You were here yesterday,” he said.

“So were you.”

“I was hoping you’d come back.”

Yemayah glanced at the empty chair opposite him. “That sounds dangerous.”

“Only if you’re hoping for something.”

His name was Jonah. He had kind eyes, a dry sense of humor, and no interest in impressing her.

She was accustomed to men who wanted to possess her or escape her. Jonah seemed content to discover her, slowly, as one might explore a shoreline—curious about the coves, respectful of the depths.

When she said she believed the universe sometimes sent messages through the moon and ocean, he stirred his coffee and said, “That seems reasonable. They’ve both been here longer than we have.”

5 DAYS. 5 STEPS.

STEP 4: DRESS REHEARSAL. 😂

Yesterday we wrote HER. Today we’re trying her on.

So I put on my Kairos dress, looked in the mirror, and apparently started negotiating with a woman I MADE UP. 😂

SHE wants to take herself out, meet some new people, and see what happens.

ME? I just found something good on Netflix. And Chile… I’m a homebody at heart.

But that’s the beauty of playing dress-up. Remember when we could put on our mama’s clothes and become anybody we wanted?

Who said we had to stop?

YOUR TURN: Put on something that makes you feel like HER. Stand in front of the mirror and have a little conversation.

What is she encouraging you to do? What excuses are you making? And what’s the BEST thing that could happen?

Notice what happens in your body as you imagine the possibility. Does your posture change? Your breathing? Do you smile?

You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything today.

We’re just playing. Rehearsing possibilities.

Sometimes I have to write her before I can be her. And sometimes I need to try her on first.

STEP 3: LET HER GO FIRST. 😂

Sometimes the women I make up have a whole lot more nerve than I do. So I let them go first.

Here’s your playdate:

Remember that thing you named on Day 1?

Give HER a name and write 2–3 paragraphs.

BEFORE: Who is she? What’s happening in her life?

THE FVK IT: What does she decide to do?

AFTER: What happens next?

ow give her THREE different endings. The messy one. The surprising one. And the one that makes you smile.

You don’t have to be a writer. And none of this has to become your real life.

It’s FICTION, chile. Make it up! 😂

5 DAYS. 5 STEPS.

STEP 2: TINY FVK IT. 👀

I almost didn’t show up.

Grief had a grip on me that morning. I had a panel to speak on at The Global Summit for Women’s Mental Health w/ @katespadeny (thank you @_tarynelizabeth💚).

I wasn’t sure I could get through it without breaking down.

So I imagined HER doing it first.

I pictured her finding her words, holding her own, and getting through the moment.

Then I told myself, just get on the damn train.

That was my tiny Fvk It.

And the irony? I ended up on that panel encouraging other women to do exactly what I’d just done.

LET HER GO FIRST.

Sometimes I have to write her before I can be her.

Yesterday, we named the thing we’ve been scared as shit to do. Today, we’re taking one small step toward it.

And here’s the somatic part: notice what happens in your body before and after that step.

No judgment. Just curiosity.

You don’t have to be fearless. You don’t have to figure it all out today.

Sometimes courage is just getting on the damn train. 😂❤️

5 DAYS. 5 STEPS. CLOSER TO YOUR FVK IT MOMENT. 🌱

STEP 1: NAME IT.

You know that thing you’ve been talking yourself out of?

Yeah. THAT thing. 👀

The conversation. The decision. The possibility you keep putting off because you’re scared as shit about what might happen.

Today, we’re not doing ANY of it.

We’re just naming it.

Swipe through. Finish the sentence. Keep it to yourself if you want.

And then sit with it for a moment.

Pay attention to what happens in your body just from naming it.

Does your chest tighten? Your stomach flutter? Do your shoulders drop? Do you feel a little excitement mixed in with the fear? GO BACK TO PREVIOUS post to bring safety back into your body.

Don’t judge it. Don’t try to change it. Just notice.

And if it feels like too much, you can pause.

No pressure. No dramatic life changes before dinner. 😂

Just a little honesty with yourself.

Because once you name it, we can start playing with the possibilities.

And chile… it’s about to get juicy from here! 👀😂

And then it gets quiet.

After the celebration. After the wine at 2pm. 😂 After the Fvk It moment.

And you start noticing things.

How much courage you’ve gained. What fits differently now. What you’ve outgrown. How much more room you need to be all of who you are.

Funny thing is, this plant wasn’t struggling. She was thriving.

She had simply outgrown the space she was in.

So I gave her more room.

Good for her. 🌱

And yes, we’re still talking about the plant. 👀
