Together, we RUN. We RIDE. We ROLL. 🇺🇸

Today was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together around inclusion, movement, and opportunity.

Our 3rd Annual Team Hoyt Virginia Beach + Kaizen Adaptive Training Run, Ride & Roll brought together 90+ participants for the 5K, 8K, and 10K all moving toward the same goal: creating a community where every athlete has the opportunity to participate, compete, and belong.

Thank you to every athlete, rider, pusher, runner, volunteer, sponsor, vendor, family member, and supporter who showed up for this event. You are what makes days like this possible.

Different abilities. Different ways of moving. One community. One finish line.

Until next year! taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

Mental wellness is just as important as physical strength.

Today, we had the opportunity to host a Creativity for Mental Health workshop inside the Kaizen Wellness Center for our adaptive athletes.

Led by Shayla Hayward-Lundy, MS, LPAT, ATR-BC, RYT, this workshop provided an opportunity for our athletes to explore creativity, self-expression, and connection in a supportive environment.

At Kaizen, our mission extends beyond physical fitness. We are committed to creating opportunities that support the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of every athlete we serve.

Thank you, Shayla, for sharing your time, expertise, and passion with our community! taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

Don’t let the hard days win.

Some days, progress looks like a personal record. Other days, it looks like showing up when everything feels harder than it should.

In adaptive fitness, we know that progress isn’t always linear. Every rep, every attempt, and every small victory matters.

The hard days will come. But they don’t get to decide how your story ends.

Keep showing up. Keep fighting. Keep moving forward. taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

Every athlete who walks through our doors brings a different story, different challenges, and different goals. But one thing remains the same: the determination to show up, put in the work, and keep moving forward.

We’re excited to be part of Lukas’ journey and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes! taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

These are the moments that remind us why access to adaptive fitness matters. When individuals are given the right environment, coaching, and opportunity, their potential continues to expand.

We’re not just building stronger athletes. We’re building confidence, independence, and a community where progress has no limits. taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

“I’m 3 weeks out from a 2½-month hospital stay, and my first adaptive class here was everything I NEEDED.”
- Lukas

Sometimes the greatest impact of what we do goes far beyond physical strength.

After spending over two months in the hospital, this athlete joined us for his first session at Kaizen Adaptive Training. While the physical support and encouragement made an impact, it was the connection with other individuals who understand his journey that meant the most.

“The physical support/encouragement was awesome. But more the mental support and the cohesiveness with other like individuals like me was great.”

This is why Kaizen Adaptive Training exists.

We are not just building strength. We are creating an environment where individuals with physical disabilities can find support, regain confidence, build relationships, and know they belong.

Recovery is physical, but it is also mental and emotional. Having a community beside you can make all the difference.

More than a workout. More than a gym. A community. taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining

We’re still reflecting on what an incredible day we had at our 3rd Annual Kaizen Adaptive Training x Team Hoyt Virginia Beach Run, Ride & Push!

With over 90 participants coming together for our 5K, 8K, and 10K, this event was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community believes that movement and endurance sports should be accessible to everyone.

Athletes of all abilities showed up, challenged themselves, supported one another, and demonstrated that there is no single definition of what an athlete looks like.

To our participants, volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and everyone who helped make this event possible — THANK YOU. Your support allows us to continue creating opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities to train, compete, and be part of an inclusive athletic community.

These photos capture so much more than a race. They represent determination, teamwork, inclusion, and a community that continues to show up for one another.

Different abilities. Shared finish lines. One incredible community.

Please help us welcome our newest adaptive athlete, Lemika, to Kaizen Adaptive Training!

Lemika sustained a spinal cord injury at the C5–C7 level in a car accident in 1995. For years, she maintained the strength and independence to handle much of her daily life on her own.

Last year, a surgery on her right arm led to four separate procedures, resulting in a significant loss of upper-body strength. Since then, transfers, lifting her arms, and everyday movements that once felt manageable have become much more challenging.

Now, Lemika is ready to rebuild.

Her goals at Kaizen are to regain upper-body strength, improve her transfers, become more active, and work toward greater independence in her daily life.

We’re excited to have you as part of the Kaizen family, Lemika. taken in Kaizen Athletics by @kaizenadaptivetraining
