šŸ‘€You crave CONTROL, not ā€œCLARITY.ā€ Sometimes we want so desperately to know all of Godā€™s game plans and what the big picture is because we want to see if God will ask something costly of us weā€™re unwilling to give. šŸ§We want to know what all weā€™re giving our ā€œyesā€ to. In this season, Iā€™m learning that much of my worries + anxieties concerning the future are me trying to figure out if what God wants for me + what I want for me align. As I get honest with him about my doubts + bring my questions to him, heā€™s providing some of the answers I want to hear but is much louder in telling me what I need to hear: šŸ—£ļøā€I am goodā€¦ā€ šŸ—£ļøā€Iā€™ve set My love on youā€¦ā€ šŸ—£ļøā€Iā€™ll never leave.ā€ If we knew every detail of his plans for us, we likely wouldnā€™t be able to handle it.šŸ«  And while he delights in filling us with hope concerning our now + our later, and wants us to be confident in the power of his hand, heā€™s even more committed to ensuring our hearts are securely rooted in his heart toward us.šŸ’– We donā€™t become less anxious merely because we see ourselves better or know more informationā€”though self-awareness + research are helpful. We become less anxious about the fulfillment of our current needs + the security of our future when we become more aware of the character, nature + desires of the God who holds both in his hands.šŸ™ŒšŸ¾ Heā€™ll share more details with you AS you go. As he sees youā€™re willing to entrust the whole of your heart to him, heā€™ll entrust more insight to you, like a dear friend. šŸ¤”If you were honest with yourself, would you admit youā€™re struggling to trust God? You can have the audacity to believe all things are possible for God to do for somebody elseā€¦ you can have confidence + bang on heavenā€™s door for someone elseā€™s miracleā€¦ all while your own heart is wonderingā€¦ ā€œIs he REALLY gonna come through FOR ME? Am I just as deserving of getting my hopes up?ā€ When this question is stirring in our soul + we feel stuck, shame loves to make us feel embarrassed for having feeble faithā€¦ and fear loves bullying us into thinking we just need to strive harder to stop feeling scared. But what if God is simply looking for our honesty instead? What if he actually welcomes our weakness so he can provide the strength weā€™re actually in need of? Whenever you find yourself feeling anxious about the future, itā€™ll not only do your soul some good to remember all God has already done in your life + for others, but also recognize the present moment is an opportunity for you to grow in building your own history with God. Itā€™s a chance for him to show you in real time + in a fresh way just how trustworthy he is. You donā€™t need to put your hope in outcomes, but in the Author + Finisher of your story who already penned every high + low to work together for your good! So get your hopes up, friend, and lift your head. šŸ‘€Letā€™s face it: hustle culture is running us RAGGEDšŸ˜° šŸ—£DO MORE! šŸ—£šŸ—£PUSH HARDER! šŸ—£šŸ—£šŸ—£GO FASTER! This is what society screams at us as the way to make it to the top, and unfortunately, this messaging has seeped into our educational system. Weā€™ve treated ourselves + our kids more like machines than peopleā€”expecting maximized results with minimum input and little to know room for a reboot. Iā€™ve long wondered if part of why our countryā€™s traditional educational systems are crumbling is because part of its design from the jump was to produce human-doings rather than flourishing human beings. And while our familyā€™s choice to break away from that system to forge a new path via homeschooling, Iā€™m seeing how much of the cultureā€™s programming IN ME has to be set aside for us to have a learning experience that values our humanity just as much as it values academics + growth. Homeschooling is meant to produce freedom, not slavery. Itā€™s meant to help us, alongside our kids, grow into the healthiest versions of ourselves. Anybody else doinā€™ the best with what theyā€™ve got?! šŸ™‹šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø These internet streets will have you feeling like you need the perfect aesthetically-pleasing space in order to do anything greatā€”including homeschool. Iā€™ve found some of the most creative things come out of improvisation + making the most of what you have. I didnā€™t always used to think this way. Perfectionism + comparison would have me so busy thinking I needed what everybody else has to flourish instead of just cultivating what Godā€™s put in my own hands. Creating a homeschool space is less about the pretty + more about curating an environment that sparks joy, curiosity and a love for learningā€”for you + your kiddos. Stewarding what youā€™ve got? Baby, THATā€™S the aesthetic!šŸ˜œšŸ‘ŒšŸ¾ You may not have a fancy schmancy homeschool roomā€”but kudos to you if you doā€”but if youā€™ve got a quaint corner, a section of a bookshelf or a dining room table? āœØVoila! Thatā€™s good enough!šŸ‘šŸ¾ Hereā€™s some of my FAVORITE resources (for free or for the low): šŸ“šYour Local Library ā€” imagination-sparking books with living ideas are the foundation of homeschooling. Take advantage of your local library for books + programs that can support your familyā€™s journey of learning. šŸ’»Core Knowledge Curriculum ā€” this totally āœØfree curriculum has really helped do the heavy lifting for me in seasons where my capacity wore thin. šŸ˜…I used to think it was all on ME to make Godā€™s plans for my life happen. When you hearšŸ—£ļøā€God wants to use you!šŸ—£ļøGodā€™s got a plan for your life!ā€ BUT have a heart of people-pleasing to earn love (like I didšŸ™‹šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜…), you can mistakingly take that to mean your usefulness to God is primarily tied to your efforts + what you can do FOR him. Right up there with prosperity preaching are its baby cousins: the gospel of hustle + manifestation.šŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø šŸ˜ā€See it? Want it?ā€ šŸŖ„ā€Name it, claim it & itā€™s yours.ā€ šŸƒšŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøā€Grind ā€˜til youā€™ve got it.ā€ The sneaky thing about these voices is that they sound good and well-meaning, but at their core are rooted in YOU doing the most to make something of yourselfā€¦ (which actually just sounds more American than the true GospelšŸ« šŸ« ) and the longer I walk with Jesus, the more Iā€™m seeing life is about trusting heā€™s the Good Shepherd that knows the good plans he has for me, and heā€™ll make me into who Iā€™m supposed to be. I donā€™t have to ā€œmake it happen.ā€ Iā€™m off the hook of trying to manifest my destiny. šŸ˜ŒAnd I can rest in the security of the reality that I am deeply loved by the God who made me, and that love canā€™t be earned by my goodness or performance. Yes, there is work I get to do, but thatā€™s in partnership WITH Godā€”for my good, the good of there + for his glory, not my own. If we have an obsession over what the future holds + are constantly consumed with concern over whatā€™s next, we canā€™t fully enjoy the blessing of today, and that may actually expose weā€™re living in more fear than weā€™d like to admit. God doesnā€™t need you to figure it all out. He already did. God didnā€™t ask for you to make something of yourself. Heā€™s molding + shaping you. If someone asked you to pray, do you lean in with joy or shrink back in dread? Lately, Iā€™m being reminded that prayer was never meant to be some joyless ritual, but a habit of hearing what heaven has to say + having a longing to see our lives reflect the nearness of Godā€™s Kingdom. For every problem in the earth, God has a plan + solution he wants to release. And that should make us giddy, hopeful, determined and filled with audacity to boldly ask God what he has in mind + how we can be part of what heā€™s doing rather than the other way around. Could it be that our experience of prayer as boring, lifeless or stale is because our eyes + hearts are more focused on this fractured, fallen world being our utopia rather than Godā€™s kingdom invading it to make it new? Maybe this is why Jesus spent so much time talking about what the Kingdom of Heaven is likeā€¦ because he was trying to spark our imaginations + ignite a zeal within for the wild possibility of all that can happen with God and of all that could happen in + around us if we partnered with him as he intended. If prayer sucks, be honest to God about why it does.
