The Family Room at The Dominican Project | San Rafael, California

Inspired by traditional keeping rooms, the family room at our Dominican Project was designed to become the warm, welcoming heart of the home.

Historically, keeping rooms were cozy, informal spaces adjoining the kitchen where families gathered, relaxed, and connected. We embraced that same philosophy when designing this family room and its new natural stone fireplace, creating a sense of intimacy within what was once a large, vaulted, and less-than-inviting space.

We selected locally sourced natural stone, machine-cut for a tighter dry-stack fit, and paired it with a custom wood mantel stained to coordinate with the new exposed wood beams. Every material and architectural detail was thoughtfully considered to bring warmth, texture, and a sense of permanence to the room.

Layered artwork, warm wood furnishings, and a vintage rug further soften the space, bringing character, comfort, and a collected quality that makes the room feel as though it has evolved over time.

Together with the adjoining kitchen, this family room has become exactly what we envisioned: a beautiful, inviting space for everyday living and gathering. Truly the heart of this family home.

A primary bathroom designed to feel timeless, warm, and deeply connected to the architecture of the home.

For our Dominican project, we layered natural materials, custom cabinetry, warm wood tones, refined stone, and carefully considered fixtures to create a space that feels elevated without feeling overly formal. Every detail was selected to balance beauty with function, from the cabinetry and storage to the lighting, hardware, and finishes.

The result is a primary bathroom that feels collected and enduring rather than tied to a particular moment. Quietly luxurious, highly functional, and designed to become even more beautiful with time.

At Kamber Mason Design, we believe the most successful bathrooms are more than beautiful rooms. They are thoughtfully planned spaces where architecture, materials, craftsmanship, and everyday rituals come together.

Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Waterworks in San Francisco to learn more about their beautiful new collaboration with Royal Delft, bringing the heritage and artistry of iconic Delft porcelain to a collection of hand-painted fixture handles.

It is always a true pleasure to spend time in a showroom of such elevated caliber, surrounded by exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and timeless materials.

We’re looking forward to incorporating these beautiful fixtures into future KMD projects and finding just the right spaces for these little works of art.

Beauty and function come together in the dining room at our Dominican project.

The custom built-in was designed to feel like an architectural extension of the room while giving our clients beautiful, purposeful storage for everything that makes gathering around the table a little easier. Glass-front cabinetry creates a place to display favorite pieces, while concealed storage keeps the practical necessities close at hand. An integrated wine refrigerator turns the piece into a hardworking serving and entertaining center.

The soft blue-gray cabinetry, warm wood dining table, aged brass details, and tailored millwork create a room that feels collected rather than overly designed. It is a space made for everyday meals, long dinners with friends, and all the moments in between.

At KMD, we believe the most beautiful interiors are the ones that work beautifully, too.

At The Aerie, the living room was designed to feel grounded in its mountain setting. A soaring cedar ceiling, hand-laid stone fireplace, rich wood millwork, and layered natural textures create a space that feels both expansive and deeply intimate. Every element works together to blur the line between architecture and interior, inviting conversation, quiet mornings, and evenings gathered by the fire.

This is the kind of luxury we believe lasts: thoughtful, tactile, and connected to the place it calls home.

The kitchen is where the family gathers. The pantry is where the calm begins.

For this kitchen, we designed a working pantry that quietly supports the rhythm of everyday life while allowing the main space to remain open, welcoming, and beautifully uncluttered.

Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, integrated storage, and glass-front display cabinets create a space that is as functional as it is refined. Everyday essentials are tucked neatly away, while favorite pieces become part of the home’s story. Just beyond the doorway, the pantry feels like a natural extension of the kitchen, thoughtfully connected yet intentionally discreet.

Together, these spaces prove that beautiful design isn’t just about what you see. It’s about creating a home that works effortlessly behind the scenes so everyday living feels a little more graceful.
