This is also what Jewish community can look like.

On Thursday, 150 people gathered at Kane Street Synagogue for We Will Dance Again.

We came with different backgrounds, different relationships to Judaism, and whatever these past few years have held for each of us. Together, we made room for movement, connection, rest, and joy.

These first photos capture a few pieces of the evening: arms reaching, people finding one another, a painting taking shape, a moment to lie down and breathe.

Thank you to Kane Street Synagogue, OpenLev, our artists and facilitators, and everyone who brought themselves into the room.

If you were there, what’s one moment that stayed with you?

You’ve probably never seen a synagogue look like this. 🪩✡️

Three years after October 7, 150 of us came together inside a Brooklyn synagogue to dance.

To make space for grief. To celebrate life. To reconnect with each other. To remember that even in the hardest of times, joy is something worth fighting for.

Jews from across denominations, backgrounds, and beliefs, coming together on one dance floor.

We Will Dance Again. And tonight, we did. ❤️

Deep gratitude to everyone who made this gathering possible.

We will keep dancing. 💙

Rabbi Oliver and Rabbi Dardashti from Brooklyn, New York go head to head discussing the festival of Sukkot as 'Optimum Vulnerability’. Rabbi Dardashti emphasizes the importance of humility in spiritual life. She shares a Hasidic legend that highlights our duality: "We should have in our pockets two pieces of paper which remind us both of our ultimate vulnerability and of the fact that the world was created for us." This balance of humility and pride is a recurring theme in her work, especially as she prepares for the upcoming festival of Sukkot. Three years later, there is so much we are still carrying.

Grief. Anger. Confusion. Longing. Love. Exhaustion. Hope.

On October 8, we’re creating a space where none of it needs to be resolved before we come together.

WE WILL DANCE AGAIN is an evening of movement, music, ritual, art, and deep rest. A chance to bring whatever these last three years have held for you, and to move together from mourning toward resilient joy.

Not because joy erases what has happened. Because joy, too, belongs in the body.

Reform, Conservative, Renewal, Orthodox, observant, secular, questioning. One room. One dance floor. Come as you are.

Featuring:

✨ DJ set by The Jewish Embodiment Lab founder DJ Oatmeal @lawrenceinmotion
✨ Live sound bath with award-winning artist Sivan Arbel @sivan_arbel_music
✨ Live saxophone by Alec Hutson @alechutson

✨ Tea experience by Marty Keiser @martykeisersoze

Lilith x @heebmedia x @rabbinicfitcheck is delighted to present the 5787 High Holiday Lookbook! We asked your favorite Jewish feminist rabbis what they were planning to wear for the High Holidays—and how they made their choices.

While women’s clothing choices are always political, this is especially true for women and gender expansive rabbis. Since America’s very first woman rabbi, the trailblazing Sally Priesand, was ordained in 1972, Jewish feminist clergy have told stories of clothing choices been policed and used as a way to undermine their leadership. That external noise can become internal. As Barbara Ostfeld, the first woman ordained as a cantor in 3,000 years of Jewish history, wrote in Lilith in 2019: “We women have learned to become watchful and wary because we’ve internalized the objectification. How do I LOOK from the bima? we wonder. What image am I conveying to congregants? we ask ourselves. Do I look approachable? If I’m going for ‘humble dignity,’ do I wear a jacket?”

With this High Holidays Lookbook, we are pulling on these complicated threads and celebrating feminist rabbis’ fashion.

Rabbi Michelle Dardashti’s top three considerations when dressing for the High Holidays are:
🍎 Modesty - minimal skin showing!
🍯 Many hours on my feet - girl’s gotta be comfortable
🐝 “Me” - reflective of my personality and vibe ;)

“The two slips of paper in my pockets are based on a teaching from Reb Simcha Bunim of Przysucha that a person should carry two slips of paper, one in each pocket. One says “the world was created for me” the other says “I am but dust and ashes.” I will have these slips in my pockets over the Yamim Noraim — it keeps me grounded as I’m carrying forward the community.”
