Natural Fictions gathers artists who harness photography’s potential to imagine new relationships with the natural worldβ€”ones that are not bound by documentary fidelity but instead embrace transformation, fiction, and play. Natural Fictions is part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View.

The Uncanny In-Between at The Blaffer Art Museum (Houston, TX) @blafferartmuseum

The exhibition features work by Audrey An (@audrey.an), Wansoo Kim (@wansoo_kim), Hoon LEE, Hayun Surl (@hayunsurl) and Hae Won Sohn (@haewsohn)

Curated by Sso-Rha Kang

The Uncanny In-Between is an exhibition and archival project that explores a diverse range of works from five Korean ceramic artists that negotiate the complexities of bicultural identities and perspectives.

In addition to the physical works in this exhibition are digital extensions of the objects that were created in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati’s NFT Media Lab. The resulting digital assets aim to highlight works that were limited by the physical constraints of viewing in a gallery and to allow for alternative ways to observe, interact, and study.

Oscillating between the material and immaterial, the exhibition pays homage to the traditions of Korean ceramics but with a contemporary twistβ€”from a split moon jar, a hybrid monster table, a guardian figurine, to a linguistic and figurative play on β€œpears”. by @kangssorha

πŸŒ€Thank you to everyone who contributed to and attended "Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us." The exhibition reached its conclusion last week.

Curated by Sso-Rha Kang, the collaboration with KADIST (@kadistkadist) explored placemaking, shapeshifting, and the temporalities of Kentucky through the Ohio River.

The exhibition traveled to six collaborating venues: Institute 193, KMAC Contemporary Art Museum, Josephine Sculpture Park, Bernheim Forest and Arboretum, The Carnegie, and the Eastern Kentucky University Giles Gallery.

At each stop, the three traveling artworks took different formsβ€”projections on the foliage of trees to a performance along the river to a screening on an abandoned millhouse. The addition of local artist(s) per venue further expanded the exhibition, highlighting the nuances of place and identity through each environmental activation.

Traveling Artists: Katinka Bock, Sora Kim, Britni Bicknaver and Brianna Kelly

Local Artists: Zach Jett, Nick Keeling, Nora Barton, Belle Townsend, Trish J. Gibson, Jeri Katherine Howell, Bayley Amburgey, Grace Rogers, Willie Carver, dreaMachine transmissions, Flanger Magazine, Lina Tharsing

πŸŒ’ Fifth stop Covington, KY for Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us!

This iteration of the project will activate the underground walkway of the Covington Plaza. A sound installation by Nick Keeling using four modified 8-track cartridge machines will be interwoven by a single decaying audio tape loop traversing the space. The source audio material, composed by Britni Bicknaver and Brianna Kelly, will travel from machine to machine slowly decaying, overlapping, and warping with each passing playback. This sound installation will play in tandem with ghostly projections from Sora Kim and Katinka Bock.

🌿 Fourth stop Clermont, KY for Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us!

In collaboration with Bernheim Forest and Arboretum (Clermont, KY)

Bernheim Forest and Arboretum is 16,000+ acres of pristine, wild forest in Clermont, Kentucky. This iteration of the traveling exhibit will activate L+A+N+D (Landscape + Art + Nature + Design), an arts initiative that annually celebrates immersive outdoor installations on a grand scale that spark conversations and a deeper appreciation of the natural world.

Ghostly projections will illuminate works such as Within the Forest: Without the Forest a piece by Raffy Mardirossian and Paul Matevosyan of DOMM Architecture Studio that uses rolls of orange geotextile fabric wrapped around three existing trees to delineate a tall triangular enclosure open to the sky.

Lastly, experimental cellist Nora Barton will respond to multiple sites with ethereal scores. Join us in the forest to experience these videos and sound interventions!

πŸŒ€ Second stop Louisville, KY for Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us! In collaboration with KMAC Contemporary Art Museum (Louisville, KY)

πŸ“† Saturday, July 19, 2025, 9pm-10:30pm. πŸ“ 1001 River Rd, Louisville, KY (Big Four Bridge, β€œunder the disc”)

The Louisville exhibition includes a site-specific, water themed projection from Stivan Widick & David Jester as dreaMachine transmissions, along with a performance by the Louisville based sound and music project Flanger Magazine.

The exhibition will be presented within Waterfront Park at the base of the Big Four Bridge, under the β€œdisc” of the pedestrian walkway. Crossing the Ohio River, connecting Waterfront Park in Downtown Louisville to Southern Indiana, the Big Four Bridge was constructed in 1895, providing rail access for freight and passengers. The bridge operated until 1969 when it was decommissioned with the ramps removed several years later. For decades it was known as the Bridge That Goes Nowhere. Since 2014, pedestrians have been able to walk and access the bridge from both sides in Louisville and Jeffersonville, Indiana.

A very magical evening in Lexington πŸŒ•πŸŒ–πŸŒ—

Thank you to everyone who came out to Portals, Pathways, and the Space Between Us! This collaboration with Institute 193 activated an abandoned millhouse that was illuminated with candles, paintings, video projections, and a soundscape. We got to enjoy roving clouds, a sunset, and a field of fireflies together as we eagerly watched the ghostly projections come to life.

A special thank you to Keelan O’Sullivan, Lina Tharsing, and Institute 193 on this special collaboration.
