To our KAN-WIN community--we hope to extend a reminder that we are here for you, and to express solidarity with Jane Doe. All survivors deserve accountability from their harmdoers and accountability from the communities that allowed that violence to happen. This case reminds us that we all have a collective responsibility to dismantle rape culture and demand justice for survivors. To all Jane Does: you are not alone and we are with you. Dear KAN-WIN community, Media and conversations surrounding high profile cases of sexual violence, such as the case at Cornell University, can bring up difficult emotions and experiences for members of the KAN-WIN community. We hope to extend a reminder that we are here for you, and to express solidarity with Jane Doe. Their story is not isolated or unfamiliar. We echo the frustration that the criminal legal system and Title IX are avenues that are not survivor-centered and consistently hold many barriers for student survivors seeking justice. All survivors deserve accountability from their harmdoers, but they also deserve accountability from the communities that allowed that violence to happen. Stopping at condemning harmdoers does not address why sexual violence happens. There are layers of rape culture and patriarchy that teaches them that behavior is acceptable. by @kanwinchicago
