2025-12-07 Pachelbel’s Carol

As I tell #audiobook #narrators, #PublicDomain is a boon to creativity! You can do anything you want with works in the Public Domain! Here, harpist Debbie Vinick mixed 3 Christmas Carols with Pachelbel’s Canon to create something new and fun to play. by @karencommins

2025-11-30 Masters In the Hall / God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

I love a good song mash-up! I had never heard Masters in the Hall; it almost sounds like a sea shanty to me. by @karencommins

2025-08-10 Somewhere In The Night

This song has lots of pedal changes for accidentals. In the 3nd measure, I need to change 2 pedals on the right side at the same time. I therefore used my left foot to change one (E natural back to E-flat) — which I typically would never do — and move the other pedal with my right foot (G natural to G-flat).

Plus, in true Manilow form, it of course has a key change!

I usually turn the pages with a Bluetooth foot pedal. However, with this piece, I was playing 2 versions of the song and had to tap the screen to go between them. (As if I didn’t have enough going on! 😆) by @karencommins

My mind has memorized this song, but my fingers don’t always know that! 😆 by @karencommins

2025-04-27 Moonlight in Vermont

My love of beautiful instrumental music came from Daddy. He had an album of 101 Living Strings that included this song. If I couldn’t sleep or had a migraine, I would put that record on the turntable and just relax while it played

It’s hard for me to relax when playing this song on harp because it has so many pedal changes! 😆 by @karencommins

2025-03-09 Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring intro

I think the first time I heard this classic piece, it was the super fast organ and harpischord of “Joy” from Apollo 100 (featuring Tom Parker). I dream of being able to play it with that speed and accuracy! #HarpGoals by @karencommins

2025-01-26 Mandy

Would you believe I didn’t see Barry Manilow in concert until 1993! Many times, he’ll sing “Mandy” in an incredible duet with a video of his younger self. It never gets old! by @karencommins

2024-12-08 Home for the Holidays

Most arrangements I saw of this song were too difficult for me to play, so I started with an easy piano lead sheet. Lead sheets only provide the melody and chord symbols. I had to create the left-hand accompaniment. I’m really enjoying the freedom and creativity offered by the lead sheet! by @karencommins

2024-12-01 Sleigh Ride (take 2) ❄️

I’ve been practicing the same arrangement that I played last year. Maybe I’ll do take 3 next year with a more complex arrangement that includes the stanzas about the birthday party at the home of Farmer Gray and the feast with the chocolate and the pumpkin pies. #HarpGoals 🎶 by @karencommins
