At 55, here’s what I’d tell my younger self:
Write it down. All of it. The ideas you’re afraid to say out loud. The goals that feel too big. The chapters you think you’re not allowed to write yet.
That fire you have? It doesn’t die when life gets full. It smolders. It waits. It comes back.
2025 was the year I stopped waiting.
Spoke on a stage. Lectured to 200+ medical students. Taught surgeons why writing matters. Edited books. Led a workshop at a writing conference. Became the Analog Coach I wanted to be at 30.
What did you stop waiting for this year? by @karenfgeiger

I knew words had weight and stories mattered. From the back bedroom desk at my grandparents’ house, where I would scribble on all the stationery.

To 8th-grade English, when we’d been studying prose - foreshadowing, devices, the architecture of a plot and each student had to write a short story.

Mine was a sappy teen romance - I knew what I knew.

Even then, I knew I loved the clack of an old typewriter under my fingers. I knew words had weight.

Fast-forward to Honors English:

When we read Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s “How Do I Love Thee,” I showed up in a Victorian-style blouse.

Not for attention.

To honor the poem. The poet. The fact that some words deserve a ceremony.

That’s still how I feel.

What about you? Are you going to let your 8th-grade self give up on those dreams? by @karenfgeiger

Does your journal look like AI wrote it?

Let me guess: you get up at 5:30am, make coffee, settle into your writing spot, open your journal and begin to write...the same thing you wrote yesterday. And it’s all starting to sound agreeable, rote, polished.

If this is happening to you, you’re not alone. And I may have a solution.

Stop writing like your 10th grade English teacher is going to grade your pages.

A journal is a container for your thoughts, insights, problems, answers, questions, and yes, your doubts. So why does yours read like everything is perfect?

Say hello to your inner critic. This bugger is determined to keep you small. That voice you hear in your head that says, no, you can’t write that, it sounds pretentious or impossible? That is your inner critic.

How do you shush this bully?

You find your inner child instead. She’s still in there, and she was never graded.

Write about what you loved to do when you were younger. (Even if it sounds foolish at first.)
Write about an adventure that was full of laughter.
Write about a game you haven’t played in a while: why you loved it, and why you stopped. (Gin rummy for me.)
Write one thing you could do today that is perfectly imperfect and not suggested by a machine.

Your journal doesn’t need another entry that sounds like a robot. It needs a little more you.

What game did you stop playing? Tell me. I’d love to know. by @karenfgeiger

“How greedy can I get with this?”

My workout instructor said it and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. So today, I wrote it at the top of my page and this was what I noticed.

Tomorrow, you try: pick one goal and get greedy with it.

My notes from this afternoon’s lecture with Jeannine Ouellette got a little…enthusiastic.

The idea I circled - several times.

We are narrative beings.

The words we use don’t simply tell the story of our lives. They influence how we see ourselves, how we see the world, and what we notice inside it - including ourselves.

Which, for someone who has spent her career thinking about language, and is increasingly fascinated by the stories we tell ourselves about age, possibility, and who we’re becoming this lecture sent me down approximately 47 rabbit holes.

I don’t have a neat conclusion.

I just keep coming back to this:

What are we saying that we’re not hearing? by @karenfgeiger

I don’t get influenced often
but this white shirt is pretty darn good - especially for the price point.

Today is crowded with everything BUT writing.
Zoom, clients, Dr’s and teaching.

Busy = good. Decision fatigue = bad.

Even when I stay home and write in my (the dog’s) corner of the kitchen, I want to look like the author and coach I’m becoming. (more on enclothed cognition in my Substack)

Having easy go-to clothing options that make me feel like an exclamation and not a dangling participle are key.

Closet clean out is due.
What doesn’t feel like me is out.
This white blouse is in.

I’m going to turn the spare room into my writing space?” I told my husband one Sunday morning when the air smelled like snow and I had an itch for making something pretty before hibernating. A space to close the door and be alone with my ideas, my stories.

We took the bed apart and stuck it in a basement corner, painted the bookshelves decorator white and the walls and sweet beige. I read somewhere that you shouldn’t bombard your senses with too much color or pattern.

Neutrals give way to ideas.

A worn workbench with knotted wood and grooves from a vice anchors the room beneath a crystal chandelier.

A room of my own.

I hate it.

Where do I write? Wherever I am.

Never alone. by @karenfgeiger

🐰📖🩷New Release! Congratulations to @suzyenglandwrites on her book, Unmasking Mr. Crown. If you love a romance that has thoughtful characters, amazing banter, heart-felt backstory, second chances and a dynamic sister relationship - this is your next read.

A special thank you to Suzy as well for being my @authoraccelerator client during my certication. She bravely handed over her story to a newbie book coach. It was a joy and an honor to work with her on a story that was fantastic from the start.

In stores now. by @karenfgeiger

There’s a new moon in Virgo today.

And apparently this is an excellent time to manifest.

So if I were going to be completely delulu about finally writing my book and assume the universe was ready to cooperate, here’s exactly what I’d do:

1. Light the candle.
Obviously. Set the vibe. We are manifesting, after all.

2. Buy THE notebook.
Leather-bound or legal pad—I’d buy the one that makes me excited to open it and that I’ll actually use.

3. Write MY BOOK across the top of the first page.
Not “book idea.” Not “maybe someday.” Set it. Present tense. Language first.

4. Write the sentence I secretly want the whole book to say.
Not the title. Not the outline—the theme. What do I want someone to know when they close this book?

5. Write the scene I can’t stop thinking about.
Not Chapter One. I’d start with the scene I wake up thinking about and can’t wait to write.

6. Write the thing I’m a little afraid to say out loud.
Put it on the page. See what happens.

7. Put 30 minutes on tomorrow’s calendar.
Same time. Same place. Delulu still needs an appointment.

8. Write 250 completely unimpressive words.
Real words on paper. Start here.

A little delusion.
A little magic.
A plan.

Maybe writing the book is the manifestation.
Come with me.

I can’t confirm that the pink pants help with manifestation, but I’m not willing to risk it.

@jessijeanhome yap challenge has me thinking back to my days working as an SLP.

Of course I notice the speech, voice and the language, what’s said and what’s not said.

While yapping on camera looks easy (trust me it’s not) I want every “yap” to feel authentically me.

Like we are sitting in the kitchen talking. That’s the story style I want to hear.

Because while yapping is popular - bringing the REAL reel is not.

This yap is what I created instead of finalizing my novel’s outline. It took far too long and the edits are choppy but I don’t know how to fix that, yet. You’re welcome. Back to writing tomorrow. As for the edits - I’m looking at you @the.jessicacarter 😉 by @karenfgeiger

When was the last time you wrote an invitation?

A real one. Not a text or an evite.
A note that says: I cordially invite you to my party.

We wrote invitations all month.
Not to someone - but to something. Cordially inviting courage, beauty, sunshine, time… back into our lives.

I am asking Creativity to stop by - at any time.

My door is open.
What invitation would you send?

For inspo head over to my Substack to read a participant’s invitation to Beauty. by @karenfgeiger
