POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Tonight from 6-6:30 at Tucson Museum of Art's Momentos Program and in conjunction with the Arizona Biennial, I'll be performing a sound piece.

Part travelogue and sound collage essay, I am pulling from my research trip last summer to multiple dams and data centers in the western US. I see these sites as inverse monuments of each other and storytelling machines through tours, museums, propaganda, public access and lack thereof. My recordings are didactic, intimate and bodily, industrial, and come from: the Colorado River, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Data Centers in Oregon and Arizona, Hetch Hetchi Reservoir, Pulgas Temple, the site of the failed St. Francis Dam, the former Gline's Dam site on the Elwha River, Google Campus, The Computer History Museum, Meta Park, and the flagship Apple Store.

For me, citing and collaging these places together have been a helpful strategy for reaffirming my own capacity to tell stories, on a different scale, about these places. But also in seeing my own role in the chaos of water and technology in this region. Hope to see you there! by @karimawalker

Karima Walker
Resident artist at Millville Studios

Working across sound, performance, craft and installation. Walker examines the systems that shape how meaning is produced.

Her work engages land mythologies, infrastructural systems and personal narratives-positioning perception as something constructed and shifting.

New methodologies in photographic land studies.

Artist practice talks and collage workshop.
5 - 7.30pm MST/PDT @cntrforcreativephoto

The embodied landscape foregrounds artists Dionne Lee and Kristine Potter, whose interdisciplinary field work proposes new methodologies for critical landscape practice. Engaging photography, land, and body work, their art investigates the ways in which we navigate as individuals and communities through the real and projected environments of the US South and Southwest. Charged and vital, their embodied practices disrupt and challenge the inherited moral narratives of colonial and gender-based violence as they operate within these historically complex territories. Positing new embodied critical practices, they assimilate new strategies for survival, understanding, and change within our evolving social landscape.

The seminar topic draws from my research and writing for my master’s thesis: “Embodied South: The embodiment of place in the new photographic imaginaries of the US South, post-1990.” which also discusses the work of Dawoud Bey @dawoudbey amongst others.

The event is supported by the University of Arizona Commission on the Status of Women.

Hi, I would like to invite you to my thesis exhibition!

SEERS
1.15.2026 - 1.26.2026
Reception: 1.16.26 6-9 PM

Step Gallery
605 E Grant Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004

How do our bodies make sense of the ever-expanding technological infrastructures shaping the planet and human relations? Data centers, algorithms, and our personal devices employ opaque digital and material architectures to continue long histories of extraction and the enclosure of natural resources and human connection. SEERS explores these systems through processes of looping, circulation, physical navigation, and gesture in order to reassert the body as a messy, necessary fount of wisdom.

Karima Walker is an artist and musician from Arizona.
