Photos from Day Two of the Soundquest Festival

Saturday Daytime Ambient Showcase :

The Ambient Showcase on Saturday afternoon in La Rosa ‘s Sanctuary presented a way to experience deep listening in the light day within an environment that has held the space of sacred worship since the mid 1930’s. While the infatuation with immersive and soundscape forms of music is expanding in countless ways worldwide, the feeling of sitting in a church in the afternoon and just listening to a world of sound you have never heard until this moment feels perfect in this type of space. To my mind this presented a gently profound moment.

Artist @karimawalker honored the space with her set of amorphous zones and texture worlds.

Tucson’s @desertdronetucson Drone series maven @_zackhansen continued to the blur the lines of space and time, and deep zone mapping.

@rigor_m0rris Morris Kolontyrsky , guitarist of @bloodincantationofficial beautifully channeled the spirits of spiraling emotion and euro psychedelia thru his electric guitar, synths and EFX.

Professor Tony Obr @tonyobr presented a master class of adroit navigation thru a range of intoxicating textural worlds born from a of myriad synths and EFX. Mesmerizing!

Thoughout Saturday we had a vendors market in the adjoining patio featuring the artist merch tables, vinyl merchants, Ethnic instruments sellers, modern musical instruments offerings along with massage offerings among many other wonderfully eclectic offerings that speak of the Tucson vibe. A Tuvan throat singer, a doom metal band, an Italian DJ and a jazz trumpeter walk into a church.

This scene is not a setup for a joke, nor is it a symptom of religious psychosis, unless experienced before or after the last weekend of August. Rather, it is a cursory glance at the Soundquest Festival, a three-day event spearheaded by La Rosa Arts Center co-owner David Slutes and ambient music pioneer Steve Roach.
