Dolly Parton might be the closest thing we will ever have to a leader who *walked the walk* of her convictions. I cannot stop crying. 😭💔

Beyond the absolute joy she brought to the world through her art, humor and style, she CHANGED lives through the good she was quietly doing all the time, from donating one free book per month to children through her Imagination Library, to funding recovery efforts for wildfire victims, to supporting LGBTQ+ and Black communities — the list goes on and on.

The world is a better place because she was born. Period! I hope we can all do her memory justice by loving on each other more, helping each other out more, and refusing to give in when society tries to divide us. 💖 I never posted my whole “9 to 5” act — so this one is for you, Dolly.

RIP, you beautiful, beautiful soul. My idol. 💔

50 and still hooping in a headstand. 💥 True story: In the process of producing @broadmindedshow — an all-women-over-40 revue — in Detroit, producer @karirevolva got a comment urging her to take precautions in case “older folks hurt themselves” on stage. The person who said it prob wouldn’t think of himself as ageist. But he said what he said.

It sparked an idea for her act. 😉

And she would love to see him do her act without hurting *himself.*

It’s HARD to feel joy right now. But it’s an act of resistance to try, in any small ways. 😢💖 The other day, I decided to see if I could skip while hooping, to pull myself up. I have to admit, it’s a mood boost.

Anyway, do you have any moves to add to the skip-hooping (skooping?) cannon? I’m sure there are more. Tag me. 😂

In the spirit of Prince, we are revising the title of our Halloween show! The artist formerly knows as (“insert a Golden Girls Halloween pun”) will now simply be known as Broadminded Women Over 40 Revue’s Halloween Variety Show. Why? Because a fab drag queen from NYC reached out to say they own the trademark to that Golden Girls Halloween pun.

No matter! We love the drag queens of the world and don’t want to step on our sister’s rhinestoned platform heels. And under ANY title, women over 40 will rock. So did you get your tix yet for the spookiest, sparkliest, most inspiring Halloween show of the season?

Morning practice, actual soundtrack. 🎶 As the midterms near, the “everybody wants to rule the world” line begs the question — but SHOULD they?

Idk about y’all, but I’m ready for a reality where we are more discerning about who is ruling the world. 🙌🏼

Detroit women are coming together to build solidarity and power during our menopause and perimenopause era! 🔥 Thank you to @tracylknox of @hotflashgoddessmovement for organizing Motown’s debut menopause awareness walk at AB Ford Park. @karirevolva, founder of @broadmindedshow Women Over 40 Revue, hosted a hoop dance station at the event, and the hot flash goddesses proved we are creating a “revolution” in every sense of the word!

It was a gorgeous day to take up space, to share sisterhood and knowledge, to say “We only get MORE valuable with time,” and to give other people permission to take up space, too! This is a movement. Thank you to every volunteer and participant who showed up today for the first — of hopefully more! — menopause awareness gatherings. If you didn’t make it today, follow @hotflashgoddessmovement for future events. 🔥

Thank you to @richardhumphrey for such a great class this morning! Richard is a real OG — from pioneering moves with the Golden Rollers in the 70s and 80s, to teaching his choreo and sharing his wisdom every single Sunday in the east Bay Area at his Rollerdance Academy. You really couldn’t ask for a more enthusiastic or welcoming teacher! And it’s an honor to learn from someone who has been skating for so long.

I started going to his classes in 2017. And for a while, I was getting better. But then Covid hit, and my life went through such huge changes. I haven’t recreated a skate practice back in Michigan yet - I should figure out how to do that because it’s good for my mental health, even when my skills have regressed. 😅

Every time I’m back in the Bay Area, I try to go get some skate time and sunshine in Hayward on Sunday mornings. Appreciate you, Richard, for inspiring us to push ourselves and continuing to do what you love - forever! 💖🛼
