Luke won’t die a grey white belt guys 🤣 We got to promote him to solid grey yesterday at 10 round Tuesday, after 6yrs at grey/white! In NoGi because he’s that NoGi guy lol. He’s been putting in the work this year, even though his focus is tackle football, and helps out a lot with the little kids and preparing the competitors. My little firecracker gal is in high school. 😫😫😫 Witty and sassy as they come, this girl has so much to offer the world. Matilda has always been the one to question everything. She won’t take no for an answer, loves a little danger, trouble is basically her middle name, and pushing boundaries and possibilities is just part of who she is.

She has so much charisma and can light up any room with that smile. But my favorite thing about her has always been her heart. She has this incredible ability to make people feel better when they’re down. No matter what’s going on, she somehow finds the bright side and chooses optimism. That’s a rare gift.

Watching my kids grow up is so bittersweet. Part of me wishes I could freeze time, but another part is so excited to see who they’re becoming. I’m just really proud of them. The memories we’ve made together mean everything to me, and I hope the next few years bring us so many more. ❤️ taken in Phoenix, Arizona by @karlafami

6th grade for my guy! 🥲 Last year of elementary school. Luke just loves life. Especially if it involves sports and hanging out with his friends. For his hyperactive little brain, playing multiple sports has been the best thing for him. He loves football, basketball, jiu-jitsu, working out. One thing I think is pretty cool is that he doesn’t really care about pro sports or celebrity athletes. His whole world is just wanting to play and be with his friends. I honestly hope that never changes.

He’s a shy kid for the most part, but sports always help him come out of his shell. He also absolutely loves animals, and his biggest role model is a guy with a bunch of animals… his Dad. 🤣🫶🏽 More than anything, I hope he stays exactly who he is at his core. Sweet, helpful, kind, and someone who genuinely cares about people. Growing up is inevitable, but I hope those parts of him never change. ❤️ taken in Phoenix, Arizona by @karlafami

Our kids have grown up around jiu-jitsu.

We’ve always encouraged them to train, but we’ve also tried to give them space to explore other things and discover what they love. For our family, jiu-jitsu has never been about demanding full-time commitment. It’s always been more like a shared practice, something we return to for fun first.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve watched their discipline build slowly, their confidence grow naturally, and their sense of empowerment come from learning how to solve problems under pressure…and constantly fail and start over.

Lately it’s been really fun watching them grow into their bodies and into their own love for it and sometimes hate it too, but they’re actually trying to submit me now, which is awesome.

There’s something deeply human about grappling. Most mammals do it. Play fighting, testing balance, learning boundaries. It’s one of the oldest ways we bond, and somehow we don’t explore it enough as adults.

Don’t be surprised if you sign your kid up and end up wanting to try it too. If you feel the call, do it. It might end up being something you grow into together. #jiujitsu #bjj #grappling taken in United States by @karlafami
